  • Patent number: 7155445
Abstract: A system and method for real-time compression and archiving of data files is disclosed. Some data files become so large that archiving onto a single storage medium, such as a CD-ROM or floppy disk, becomes difficult. In order to allow for such archival storage, an initial data file is broken down into smaller data files for compression. Once compressed, successive files are selected for storage onto a first storage medium until the storage medium becomes full. Once the first storage medium is full, the next set of data files is selected and placed onto a second storage medium. This process is repeated until all of the smaller files that originated from the initial file are archived.

  • Patent number: 7155221
Abstract: A method and system for differential handover of a call into a home mobile network from a partner mobile network is disclosed. An exemplary embodiment of a method for differential call handover includes setting a flag in the partner mobile network which identifies a mobile station, whose communication is being handled by the partner network, as a subscriber to the home network. In an exemplary embodiment, channel information associated with possible handover cells of the home network is retrieved by the partner network after the latter receives a communication from the mobile station indicating a handover condition.

  • Patent number: 7154997
Abstract: Methods of billing telephone calls in networks that utilize shared modem pools. A request from a user of the network is received along with user identifying data. The user identifying data is correlated with records in a database of user identifying data and if a match is found, the call is passed through the network. The user has then been authenticated as a valid user of the network and can be billed accordingly, even though a random modem in the modem pool was used to place the call. This allows the user to be billed for the call so that the owner of the modem pool is not left financially responsible for the long-distance and/or other toll charges incurred by the user in making the call. The methods also ensure that the modem pool owners can bill for all calls, thereby enhancing the network's revenue stream.

  • Patent number: 7151740
Abstract: An open loop power control system for an orthogonal frequency division modulation (OFDM)-based fixed/mobile wireless system. A preferred system and method comprise measuring signal strength of received interference-free pilot tones transmitted by a base station; determining pathloss according to received power level of pilot tones; and controlling transmit power level of the remote unit by adjusting transmitting channel attenuation according to the pathloss determined in the preceding step. The method may further comprise monitoring at the base station the received signal level of uplink pilot tones; checking if received signal level of uplink pilot tones is outside pre-set limits around the target level at the start of each call; and sending a command to the mobile station over the broadcast channel to increase or decrease the transmitting power level.

  • Patent number: 7149476
Abstract: The present invention includes systems and methods for estimating interference levels on idle channels in an unsynchronized TDMA or GSM wireless network. Each of s time slots is divided in to n distinct or overlapping segments. The interference level within each segment for each time slot is then measured and stored. In each subsequent frame in a predetermined accumulation interval T, the interference level within each segment of each time slot is measured and averaged with the measurements of the corresponding segment and corresponding time slot in previous frames. The maximum of the average interference measurements in all segments of all time slots yields increased accuracy for an interference measurement on the physical channel.

  • Patent number: 7149238
Abstract: A discrete multitone stacked-carrier spread spectrum communication method is based on frequency domain spreading including multiplication of a baseband signal by a set of superimposed, or stacked, complex sinusoid carrier waves. In a preferred embodiment, the spreading involves energizing the bins of a large Fast Fourier transform (FFT). This provides a considerable savings in computational complexity for moderate output FFT sizes. Point-to-multipoint and multipoint-to-multipoint (nodeless) network topologies are possible. A code-nulling method is included for interference cancellation and enhanced signal separation by exploiting the spectral diversity of the various sources. The basic method may be extended to include multielement antenna array nulling methods for interference cancellation and enhanced signal separation using spatial separation. Such methods permit directive and retrodirective transmission systems that adapt or can be adapted to the radio environment.

  • Patent number: 7145880
Abstract: Embodiments include a system and method for solving a wireless communications channel packing problem by using a cost-like accounting metric that includes channel packing efficiency as well as modulation efficiency, channel conditions and or noise thresholds. The cost-like accounting metric is used to adjust the rated effectiveness of using each available modulation scheme where modulation schemes in adjacent spectrum will produce differing degrees of packing efficiency. By selecting those available carrier wave modulation schemes based on channel conditions versus noise threshold and accounting for packing factor as well as modulation efficiency, some embodiments the invention achieve higher quality within the framework of creating the greatest overall channel efficiency by selecting the best modulation scheme for each part of the spectrum being used.
