    Abstract: A main fanout includes a plurality of intermediate fanout devices that are connected to one another. Each intermediate fanout device can be assembled separately and then connected together to form the main fanout. Each intermediate fanout device is connected to an intermediate cable of a main cable and a plurality of optical fibers of each intermediate cable is positioned within at least one furcation tube. The plurality of optical fibers and at least one furcation tube are secured to a main body of each intermediate fanout device. Each intermediate fanout device includes a mating feature to connect to adjacent intermediate fanout devices with a like mating feature. The mating feature reduces relative movement between adjacent intermediate fanout devices.

Each of the optical fibers is positioned in one of a plurality of separate extensions formed by the flexible substrate as the optical fibers extend from the first connector to the second connector. A flexible substrate is positioned between the cable entry location and the connectors adjacent the front of the body, the flexible substrate rigidly supporting the plurality of optical fibers. Each of the connectors adjacent the front of the body includes a ferrule. Dark fibers can be provided if not all fiber locations are used in the multi-fiber connectors. Multiple flexible substrates can be used with one or more multi-fiber connectors.

    Abstract: A distributed radio frequency communication system includes a remote radio unit (RRU and a baseband unit (BBU) and facilitates communication between a wireless terminal and a core network. The RRU receives a radio frequency signal from a wireless terminal and convert the radio frequency signal to digital baseband samples using receiver circuitry and an analog-to-digital converter. The RRU then adaptively compresses the digital baseband samples, using adaptive compression circuitry, to create fronthaul uplink information, and sends the fronthaul uplink information over a fronthaul link to the BBU using an adaptive fronthaul protocol. The RRU also receives fronthaul downlink information over a fronthaul link from the BBU using an adaptive fronthaul protocol and generates frequency-domain samples, based on the fronthaul downlink information received.
