  • Patent number: 5882456
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a tread strip with shoulder cover strips for a pneumatic vehicle tire includes the step of continuously extruding a shoulder cover strip and calendering the shoulder cover strip to a desired thickness. The thus thickness-reduced cover strip is then applied to the tread strip. The shoulder cover strip is then cut to length in order to match a circumferential length of the tread strip for building a tire.

  • Patent number: 5820710
Abstract: A belted tire, especially for motor vehicles, has an inner carcass ply, the end portions of which extend from the inner surface of the tire, about an annular bead core, toward the outer surface of the tire. To form a connection point, the end of the outer section of the carcass ply is placed against the inwardly disposed section. The carcass ply approaches the bead core essentially tangentially, and is disposed thereabout. Between the bead core and the connection point, the two carcass ply sections extend linearly and have essentially the same length.

  • Patent number: 5788023
Abstract: A brake actuator for electrically actuated vehicle brakes includes a spindle assembly without additional gear stages. The forces required for engaging the brake are realized herein by utilizing the spindle assembly. The brake actuator includes a brake pad which is pressed against a brake disc with the aid of an electric motor (4) operating as an electric drive. A planetary-roller spindle assembly operatively connects the electric motor to a brake piston on which the brake pad is mounted. The electric motor (4) is connected via the spindle assembly to the brake piston (32). The spindle assembly (16) is arranged in the displacement direction of the brake pad and the brake piston (32) is journalled so as to be axially displaceable with the brake pad. The spindle assembly (16) includes a spindle rod (18) which is mounted so as to be an extension of the rotor (8) of the electric motor (4).

  • Patent number: 5782322
Abstract: The invention is directed to a brake actuator (2) having a transmission including an electric motor (6) as a drive element, a converting device for converting the rotational movement of the electric motor (6) into a linear movement and a hydraulic transmission (16, 18, 20) for transmitting the linear movement of the converting device to a friction lining (22) of a brake. The brake actuator of the invention does not require a mechanical transmission connected between the motor and the hydraulic transmission. This is achieved with a converting device configured as a spindle unit (12, 14) and is realized in that the spindle nut (12) is fixedly connected to the electric motor (6) and the spindle rod (14) is fixedly connected to a first hydraulic piston (16) of the hydraulic transmission (16, 18, 20). The electric motor is provided with a hollow shaft (10) for accommodating the displacement stroke of the spindle rod.

  • Patent number: 5775562
Abstract: A method for conveying a strip of plastically deformable material to a processing device includes the step of conveying the strip in a conveying direction toward the processing device. Cross-sectional areas of the strip are deformed relative to one another perpendicular to the conveying direction, whereby the cross-sectional areas extend perpendicular to the conveying direction and are sequentially arranged in the conveying direction, such that the cross-sectional areas each have one side delimiting one side of the strip, that form together an edge of the strip. The edge extends parallel to the conveying direction and remains parallel to the conveying direction until the strip reaches the processing device. A device for performing the method includes a straightening device for straightening the lateral limiting edge of the strip conveyed on the conveying table.

  • Patent number: 5746848
Abstract: A vehicle tire having a profiled tread on the periphery of which are arranged pitches of at least two different lengths. In an axial direction, the tread is divided into several parts, with the successive pitch length in a given axial part forming a pitch sequence. To further reduce radial force fluctuations that induce vibrations by the transmission of noise into wheel suspension and body parts, the phase offset between the pitch sequences of the various tread parts is dimensioned such that the distance between the absolute extremes of the summation of weighted representations of a given function is minimal or at most 25% greater than this minimum. Each of the tread parts have associated therewith a function that is the successive plotting of successive pitch lengths of the pertaining tread part on the abscissa while marking off the respective pitch length, starting from the abscissa, onto the ordinate.

  • Patent number: 5725703
Abstract: In a method for placing the required length of a tread strip onto a belt building drum tread strip portions are prepared by cutting from a continuous tread strip supply. The tread strip portions are collected in a storage device. The tread strip portions are sequentially fed to a belt building drum such that in a direction of feeding to the rear edge of a leading strip the leading edge of the next tread strip portion is spliced and a quasi-continuous tread strip band is formed. The circumference of the belt building drum is determined in order to determine the required tread strip length. The quasi-continuous tread strip band is cut to the required length of the tread strip so as to match the circumference of the belt building drum.
