  • Patent number: 6435020
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for carrying out the allocation of tire pressure control devices (4a to 4d) to wheel positions in a tire pressure control system of a motor vehicle. Each tire pressure control device (4a to 4d) transmits, at certain time intervals, its individual identifier and a lengthened high frequency signal to the central unit (10) of the tire pressure control system. The high frequency signals have an individual trace which is dependent upon the rotational angle of the wheel and on the time because of the geometry of the wheel box and as a consequence of the rotation of the wheel. In the central unit (10), a time point is fixed from two sequential high frequency signals at which the wheel assumes the same angular position in each case with this wheel being the wheel from which the signals were transmitted. The corresponding wheel has made an integer number of revolutions between the two time points.

  • Patent number: 6375168
Abstract: An air spring fines a longitudinal axis and includes a first end member in the form of a cover and a second end member in the form of a roll-off piston at a distance from the first end member. A flexible resilient member is clamped between the first and second end members so as to permit the first and second end members to move toward each other in the direction of the longitudinal axis and the distance between the end members changes during the operation of the air spring. An elevation sensor includes an electrically conductive helix arranged in the direction of the longitudinal axis. The helix has a plurality of turns and is arranged in the air spring so that the helix changes in length when the end members move towards each other in the direction of the longitudinal axis. The first and second end members and the flexible resilient member conjointly define an interior space.

  • Patent number: 6369583
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for determining the spacing or distance of two reference points which are movable between a lower spacing limit and an upper spacing limit. The method is especially for determining the spacing of a vehicle body of a motor vehicle relative to a fixed reference point. The spacings are determined with the aid of a sensor and this sensor is attached as close as possible to a defined position. Thereafter, an offset is determined from the signal, which is indicated by the sensor, and from the signal, which a sensor would indicate if located in the defined position. For the spacing measurement, this offset is added to the signal, which is indicated by the sensor, and the spacing of the two reference points is determined from the summation signal which results in this way. With the method, it is achieved that an imprecisely installed sensor can be calibrated to a precisely installed sensor.

  • Patent number: 6354617
Abstract: The invention relates to a level control arrangement for vehicles having air springs (6a) to (6d) and a pneumatically controllable directional valve (26). A residual pressure holding function and an overpressure function are integrated into the directional valve (26). The directional valve (26) is controlled by the air pressure in the air springs (6a) to (6d). The air pressure can be applied via a control line (20) to a control input (24) of the directional valve (26). The air from the air springs (6a) to (6d) is released with the aid of the venting line (28). The venting line (28) is guided separately from the control line (20) through the directional valve (26). In this way, a large air flow can be conducted through the venting line (28) without the static air pressure in the control space (50) of the directional valve (26) being reduced. The venting line is blocked by a stepped piston (44) of the directional valve when no air is to be released from the air springs.
