  • Patent number: 4671333
Abstract: A belted tire having a respective step at each of the edges of the tread strip, with the edges of the belt extending to below the approximately horizontal surface of the step. In order to avoid undesirable heat formation, and hence to reduce the rolling resistance, a low-dampening rubber layer is disposed between two belt piles, with the rubber layer ending prior to the edges of the belt. In these regions, as extensions of the intermediate layer, respective additional rubber strips are provided. Half of the width of a given rubber strip is disposed below the belt plies, and the other half of the width of that strip extends laterally beyond the belt. These rubber strips are harder than the low-damping intermediate layer.

  • Patent number: 4662405
Abstract: A flexible, very high pressure hose as a flexible conducting member in hydraulic systems. The wall of the hose contains filamentary load-carrying cords which are embedded in two or more layers. The load-carrying cords are combined to form a plurality of strips which cross one another or are braided with one another. The present invention deviates from the heretofore known symmetrical arrangement where the strips of a given layer have the same number of load-carrying cords in both directions, and instead provides an asymmetrical layer construction including strips which in one direction have a different number of load-carrying cords than do the strips which extend in the opposite direction. While the local resistance to pressure remains the same, the advantages of the present invention are distinct improvements, primarily in the flexibility and the service life of the novel hoses.

  • Patent number: 4657229
Abstract: A pneumatic shock absorber, especially for road vehicles. The rolling bellows of the shock absorber is made of a simple hose body which has no end beads, and is mounted with the aid of metal clamping rings on vehicle parts which are cushioned relative to one another. To simplify mounting, the mounting regions of these parts are provided with reduced-diameter engagement surfaces. To improve this mounting system, the support piston which is associated with the lower end portion of the rolling bellows is provided with circumferential ribs which are disposed in at least one axial portion of the reduced-diameter mounting region thereof. These circumferential ribs preferably have a triangular cross-sectional shape. The frictional mounting is thus supplemented and reinforced in a simple manner by a positive connection, so that the rolling bellows is reliably secured relative to every disadvantageous axial movement.

  • Patent number: 4655270
Abstract: A one-piece rim for a vehicle wheel, especially a truck wheel, on which a pneumatic tire is to be mounted. The rim ring is provided laterally outwardly with rim flanges which extend essentially radially inwardly. Disposed next to these rim flanges, on the radially inner side of the rim ring, are respective seating surfaces for a tire bead. To secure the tire beads on the rim, even in extreme driving situations, the rim ring includes two parts which are undetachably connected with one another and/or the wheel-center disk. Provided laterally inwardly of each rim flange is a respective one-piece clamping ring, which has an outer diameter which is greater than the inner diameter formed by the rim flanges. Spring or snap rings are provided for fixing the clamping rings in position against the tire beads.

  • Patent number: 4650169
Abstract: A hydraulically damped resilient mounting. Compared to undamped mountings, motor mounts having hydraulic damping transmit more noise because the damping device that is desirable for driving comfort favors the transmission of noise. The inventive damping device can be selectively activated or deactivated as needed by shifting the damping fluid, which is moved as a single incompressible body. For this purpose, the damping fluid is accommodated between two flexible diaphragms that are subjected to pressure differentials which are produced randomly or are controlled by a computer.

  • Patent number: 4643659
Abstract: To extrude, for pneumatic tires, uncured tread strips composed of three different rubber or synthetic material mixtures, three extruders are used which feed to a common extruder head and are connected with the latter. The present invention utilizes the favorable flow conditions resulting from the known Y-arrangement of three extruders within the extruder head, while at the same time avoiding the previously unavoidable complex and expensive specialized construction of the extruder head. Inventively, the third extruder, which opposes the two first extruders in the withdrawal direction, is not screwed or clamped to the extruder head which is common to all three of the extruders. Rather, the third extruder is easily detachably connected via a direct metal-to-metal contact with the extruder head only by a frictional connection in a longitudinally movable arrangement.

  • Patent number: 4643923
Abstract: A profiled rubber strip seal for bordering window and door openings. To simplify installation or, for example in the case of sliding windows, to promote relative movement between the strip and window panes, such seals are provided with overlay strips of low-friction material. The sliding properties of the overlay strip are improved, independent of the material of the strip, by applying to the latter a surface texture, for example by impressing such a structural quality in the strip, or by exposing the strip to particles.

  • Patent number: 4635697
Abstract: A vehicle wheel having a rigid rim on which can be mounted a pneumatic rubber tire. The tire beads are adapted to be disposed on the radially inner side of the rim ring. Deep mounting beds are located axially inwardly of the rim seating surfaces for the tire bead. In order to prevent the penetration of water and dirt into the deep mounting beads, the tire beads each have a cross-sectional shape which on the one hand during mounting allow the tire bead to enter the mounting space having the deep bed, and on the other hand in the operating position of the tire close off the mounting space having the deep bed region.

  • Patent number: 4630662
Abstract: A vehicle wheel, especially for a truck. The wheel has a rigid rim on which can be mounted a pneumatic tire of rubber or rubber-like material. The carcass of the tire is anchored in the tire beads by being looped around pull-resistant bead cores. The tire beads are disposed on the radially inner periphery of the rim ring. In order to make it particularly easy to mount the tire, the rim seating surfaces for each tire bead extend essentially horizontally in the transverse direction, and extend to the edge of the rim ring. A clamping ring is disposed radially inwardly of the tire bead, with that side of the clamping ring which rests against the bead extending at an angle to the axis of rotation of the wheel. The bead core has a cross-sectional shape which includes sides which extend essentially parallel to the clamping ring and parallel to the rim seating surface.

  • Patent number: 4623009
Abstract: A covering ring for a vehicle wheel. The bead seating surfaces of a tire are mounted on the radially inner periphery of the rim. In order to prevent dirt and/or water from entering the space between the tire bead and the rim well, the covering ring has a width which covers the space between the tire bead, that portion of the rim which extends axially outwardly from the rim well, and the rim well. Also provision is made that the radially inner surface of the covering ring, when viewed in the transverse direction, extends horizontally or is laterally inclined toward the outside. Also provision is made that the radially inner diameter of the covering ring at no point of the space, which is to be covered, be greater than the radially inner diameter of the mounted tire in the bead region.

  • Patent number: 4621998
Abstract: A continuously-operating vulcanizing press, in which the article which travels through the press is guided on both sides between flexible enclosing strips which travel along with the article. A pressure mechanism, which acts upon the enclosing strips, is provided in the entry region of the press in order to already produce direct contact of the strips with the side edges of the pressed article in the starting phase of the vulcanization. In contrast to the heretofore known arrangement, which is disposed at a distance ahead of the press, the inventive arrangement provides a considerably more precise guidance of the enclosing strips, and hence also provides a qualitative improvement of the end product.

  • Patent number: 4621795
Abstract: A hydraulically damped motor mount for motor vehicles, and similar elastic supports having a controlled damping device, the free cross-sectional flow of which is statically closed off by a flexible diaphragm which is held with a certain freedom of movement between rigid support plates. In order to improve the acoustical behavior of such mountings, and to suppress the noise associated with the change in direction of the spring movements, the inner peripheral region of the support plates which embrace the diaphragm, and which overlap the edge of the latter, is provided with successive indentations in the form of gaps between teeth in such a way that the frictional forces generated by the approach of the diaphragm onto the support plates in the damping fluid is kept low. The inventive configuration of the support surfaces results in the elimination of undesirable tapping noises when the placement of the diaphragm has advanced partially.

  • Patent number: 4610438
Abstract: A hydraulically damped elastic engine mounting having a ring-shaped rubber spring member which takes up static and dynamic loads and is equipped with a damping disk immersed in a damping fluid in order to provide hydraulic damping. The damping disk is movably mounted with axial play between spherical or conical buffer surfaces, and is provided in the vicinity of the buffer surfaces with passages through which the damping fluid can flow. The free path of the disk governs the damping applied, and at the same time prevents undesirable impact noise by the special design of the parts which move in relation to each other. Moreover, the damping disk may be constructed in such a way that interfering cavitation phenomena produced in the two surfaces are suppressed. This ensures that the damping device is fully effective in all vibration ranges and under all conditions occurring while the vehicle is being driven.

  • Patent number: 4597426
Abstract: In combination, a vehicle wheel which has a rigid, one-part rim, and a belted pneumatic tire having a single-ply or multiple-ply carcass and substantially inextensible and/or tension resistant core rings in the beads. The rim has rim flanges and, adjacent thereto, seating surfaces for the belted tire. To permit simple mounting of the tire, there is proposed that, in the position of the mounted tire, the distance from the center of a core cross-section to the bead edge facing the seating surface is greater than the distance to the axially inner bead edge, so that the core ring is eccentrically mounted in this region of the bead.
