Abstract: The disclosure describes techniques for protecting patient data stored in a medical device, such as an external defibrillator. The patient data may be transferred, or downloaded, from the medical device to another device, such as to a computing device for storage or analysis. In response to the download, the medical device may protect the patient data so that at least subset of users can no longer access the patient data. Patient data may be protected by modifying the data form, encrypting the data, moving the data to another memory module, password protecting the patient data, or modifying an access control list associated with the patient data. While the patient data may also be deleted as a technique for protecting the data, not deleting the data may allow the data to be recovered at a later time by an authorized user, i.e., a user not part of the subset.

Abstract: In some embodiments, a wall-mountable, configurable controller having control keys (e.g., less than eight keys or another small number of keys), a subassembly including circuitry, and a control key insert removably mountable to the subassembly and including at least one of the control keys. The circuitry can include a limit switch that is biased in a default state but moveable into a learning state in response to user-exerted force. In some embodiments, the controller includes an IR emitter and an IR receiver and is operable to clone another device by sending configuring radiation from the emitter to the other device's IR receiver. Preferably, the emitter and receiver are positioned so that a controller's IR emitter aligns with the IR receiver of an identical controller when the controllers are positioned face to face. In some embodiments, the controller provides audible and visual feedback to users when operating in a learning mode.

Abstract: Control of a process for producing free sulfur from hydrogen sulfide is accomplished by manipulating the flow rate of a feed stream containing oxygen to a furnace in such a manner that a desired proportion of the hydrogen sulfide fed to the furnace is converted to sulfur dioxide. Combustion of hydrogen sulfide is precisely controlled by the proposed system to maintain the hydrogen sulfide and sulfur dioxide concentrations in the tail gas at acceptable levels to minimize the environmental pollution.
Abstract: An apparatus and method is provided for a defibrillator that specifies treatment protocols in terms of number of chest compressions instead of time intervals. The defibrillator includes a connection port that is configured to attach with a plurality of electrodes that are capable of delivery of a defibrillation shock and/or sensing one or more physical parameters. An energy storage device capable of storing a charge is attached to the plurality of electrodes. A controller is coupled to the plurality of electrodes and the energy storage device, the controller is configured to provide CPR chest compression instructions in terms of the numbers of CPR chest compressions.
Abstract: A medical device and/or a method are used by a rescuer who is caring for a patient. The depth of CPR chest compressions is determined, by detecting magnetic fields. An interference is sensed, which is not associated with the CPR chest compressions, but which is superimposed on the detected magnetic fields. Appropriate countermeasures may be taken, if the sensed interference is larger than a threshold.

Abstract: A method for operating an engine and an integrated starter/generator/motor (ISGM) disposed in a hybrid electric vehicle, which includes launch and deceleration processes. The ISGM is used to both launch the vehicle and start the engine. The deceleration process includes operating a first clutch to disengage the engine from the ISGM during an initial phase, and engaging a second clutch during the initial phase to direct substantially all regenerative energy to provide the only source of electrical energy to recharge the energy storage device.
Abstract: A target-travel-path generating circuit calculates a target travel path along which the controlled object can travel in the future from the current controlled object position, an ideal-control-signal calculating circuit calculates a control profile ? to travel along the target travel path P, and a difference calculating circuit calculates a difference ? between the ideal control magnitude ? and a current control magnitude ?. An operation system assistance controller controls the operation system based on the magnitude of the calculated difference ? to assist the control operation of the operator, the control-operation-state of the operator, the environment-state, and the required operation-precision.

Abstract: When a defibrillator selects a dosage of energy or current to be delivered to a patient, the defibrillator selects an excitation current frequency and applies the excitation current at the selected frequency to the patient. The frequency of the excitation current is selected as a function of the dosage to be delivered. The patient's response to the excitation current at the selected frequency will accurately reflect the impedance that the defibrillator will “see” when delivering the selected dosage of energy or current.

Abstract: A fluid end 15 for a multiple reciprocating pump assembly 12 comprises at least three plunger bores 61 or 91 each for receiving a reciprocating plunger 35, each plunger bore having a plunger bore axis 65 or 95. Plunger bores being arranged across the fluid head to define a central plunger bore and lateral plunger bores located on either side of the central plunger bore. Fluid end 15 has suction valve bores 59 or 89, each suction valve bore receiving a suction valve 41 and having a suction valve bore axis 63 or 93. Discharge valve bores 57 or 87, each discharge valve bore receiving a discharge valve 43 and having a discharge valve bore axis 63 or 93. The axes of at least one of suction 10 and discharge valve bores is inwardly offset in the fluid end from its respective plunger bore axis.
Abstract: Embodiments of the present concept are directed to external defibrillators that include an electrode connection port having multiple connection options, and include a detection device to determine an electrode connection configuration so as to provide an appropriate electrical shock to a patient. The detection device detects the electrode connection configuration of a plug connector for connected electrodes to determine if the plug connector is in an adult orientation or a pediatric orientation. The external defibrillator is configured to a deliver an electrical shock with less energy when the pediatric orientation is detected rather than the adult orientation.

Abstract: A valve assembly having a valve-seal on a valve member that moves between an open and a closed position within a valve support housing for controlling fluid flow, particularly for use as a shut-off valve. In many embodiments, advancing the valve member sealingly engages the valve-seal with a valve seating area of the housing to close the valve and shut-off fluid flow through the housing, while retracting the valve member moves the valve-seal away from the seating area to allow fluid flow around the valve-seal and through the valve-seating area. In many embodiments, the valve member includes a proximal handle and angled ramp that engage with a helical ramp of the housing to translate rotation of the handle into axial movement of the member between open and closed positions.
