  • Patent number: 10813002
Abstract: When a capillary network device connects to user equipment and the user equipment establishes or modifies a bearer to support traffic from the capillary device, the user equipment may request that the network provide some indication that the user equipment will not be charged for the traffic. The network may indicate to the user equipment that the flow is sponsored or that the user equipment will otherwise not be charged for the flow. Existing messages between a UE/GW, P-GW, PCRF, and an application server (AS) may be modified and new messages may be used so that the user equipment can request a guarantee of sponsorship or of non-charging and so that the AS may indicate to the user equipment that the flow is sponsored. The messaging can also be used by user equipment on its own behalf.

  • Patent number: 10812461
Abstract: Capillary network devices (i.e., IMSI-less devices) may connect to an EPC through a home WLAN. A WLAN can be configured by the homeowner to accept responsibility for the traffic or a WLAN can indicate to a network that it will allow the traffic if the traffic is sponsored by an application server or if it is compensated for the traffic by the network operator. Where an IMSI-less device has a business relationship with a network operator, a WLAN can allow the device to authenticate with the network and obtain a device identifier from the network. Where an IMSI-less device has a business relationship with a SCS that has a business relationship with the network operator, the WLAN can allow the device to authenticate with the network.

  • Patent number: 10805842
Abstract: A mobile network operator (MNO) may control WiFi QoS. 3GPP has specified control mechanisms for various levels of quality of service (QoS) over the cellular access and core network. Embodiments described herein provide differentiation of WiFi QoS based on MNO requirements. In particular, extensible authentication protocol (EAP) and diameter messages may be extended to include a wireless local area network QoS parameter. This may be used by user equipment to set the uplink 802.11e User Priority (UP) for offloaded or evolved packet core-routed WiFi traffic.

  • Patent number: 10804989
Abstract: Multiple mobility sets are maintained for nodes of radio networks. The sets comprise information such as: transmit and receive point identities; cell identities; beam identities; frequency channels; channel bandwidth; and black lists. The sets may be defined at different levels, such as network and physical (PHY) level. A network mobility set, e.g., a new-radio (NR) mobility set may, be determined by the gNB, the cell, the UE, or another device. Multiple radio access network nodes and UEs may exchange mobility set information to achieve a distributed mobility solution. A UE may monitor its orientation relative to a TRP, e.g., via use of an onboard MEMS gyroscope, and alter its beamforming parameters in response to changes in orientation and/or changes in TRP connection strength. Cell selection and reselection for beam based networks may use Single Frequency Network (SFN) broadcast of initial access signals without beam sweeping.

  • Patent number: 10798779
Abstract: Multicast messaging may be managed in a machine-to-machine/Internet of things context, such as a CoAP network, via the inclusion of server selection criterion in multicast request messages and/or resource directory registration management. Server selection criteria may be explicit or implicit. An explicit criterion may be expressed, for example, as an IP address, a server identifier relative to a group context, or a Bloom filter. An implicit criterion may, for example, relate to the context of the request or the requestor, and include such information as data accuracy, data type, application, operating system, network location, geolocation, resource creation time, and resource update time. Server selection criteria may be maintained by a resource directory and/or via a user interface.

  • Patent number: 10764792
Abstract: Applicants disclose an inter-system mobility anchor control point that is adapted to initiate handover of an existing communication connection in an integrated small cell and WiFi (ISW) network. The inter-system mobility anchor control point is communicatively coupled to both an HeNB/LTE network and trusted WLAN access network (TWAN) and adapted to operate as a common control plane entity for both HeNB/LTE and TWAN access. The mobility anchor control point may be a mobility management entity (MME) or an integrated small cell and WLAN gateway (ISW GW). The mobility anchor control point is adapted to request and receive measurement data relating to the operations of the HeNB network and WLAN. Based upon the measurement data, the mobility anchor control point determines whether an existing communication path via one of the HeNB/LTE network and WLAN should be handed over to the other of the networks.

  • Patent number: 10757716
Abstract: A Service Capability Exposure Function for a UE (U-SCEF) may be part of the UE's operating system (OS) and expose API's to applications that allow these applications to schedule data plane communications such as periodic sensor measurements or a firmware download. The U-SCEF communicates with an EPC Interworking Service that resides in the mobile network operator's (S)Gi-LAN. The EPC Interworking Service serves as an interface between the U-SCEF and the service capabilities that are exposed by the MNO via the SCEF. The U-SCEF may provide the EPC Interworking Service with information about the UE's anticipated communication schedule and mobility status. The EPC Interworking Service uses the services that are exposed by the SCEF to determine the optimal times for the UE to communicate, an optimal mobility management configuration, etc. The EPC Interworking Service negotiates a communication schedule with the EPC (SCEF) and policies on behalf of the UE (U-SCEF).

  • Patent number: 10757636
Abstract: In current approaches to M2M architectures, no interworking application programming interfaces (API's) are exposed to the service layers that are in the local network. Thus, a service layer might not able to make various requests including, for example, that devices be triggered, that the service layer receive notifications when devices are connected to the network, and that the service layer receive notifications when devices are no longer connected to the network. Described herein is a small cell architecture that provides an interworking interface to applications and service layers that reside in the local small cell network. For example, a small cell or eNB may send a notification, for example to a Local Security Capability Exposure Function (L-SCEF) or a core network function, when a UE attaches to or disconnects from a local network.

  • Patent number: 10735980
Abstract: It is recognized herein that as the number of transmit antennas in cellular systems (e.g., NR or 5G systems) increase, the Channel State information (CSI) feedback overhead may increase to unacceptable levels, and the current CSI feedback might not support beamforming training for NR. Embodiments described herein provide an enhanced and more efficient design for Channel State Information feedback as compared to current approaches.

  • Patent number: 10728253
Abstract: Current discovery mechanisms lack capabilities, such as capabilities related to permissions associated with a given registrant for example. In an example embodiment, a registrant of a service layer can communicate with a network node that hosts the service layer. The network node may receive a discovery request for a resource from the registrant. The discovery may request include various context. For example, the context of the discovery request may be indicative of an operation that the registrant intends to perform on the resource, a role that the registrant intends to assume if the registrant accesses the resource, a location in which the registrant intends to access the resource, or a subscription plan that the registrant intends to use if the registrant accesses the resource. Based on the context of the discovery request, the network node may determine whether one or more resources at the service layer satisfy the discovery request.
