    Abstract: A method for manufacturing a paper core material is described. The paper core material has uses such as in the building industry and has the advantage that no toxic home syndrome is caused in a newly built house or office. The paper core material has a continuous geometric pattern such as rectangular or hexagonal cells and is made by the method of providing a plurality of base paper strips, bending and gluing the base paper strips to form the paper core material having a continuous geometric pattern, treating the paper core material with a charcoal solvent comprising activated carbon dust, wood vinegar and a flame-resisting agent, and drying the paper core material. An alternate method is provided which involves treating the base paper strips with the charcoal solvent, drying the base paper strips, and then bending and gluing the base paper strips to form the paper core material having a continuous geometric pattern.

    Abstract: Winding cores for the paper industry are restored by removing the metal tips from the ends of the core, trimming the core to eliminate the crimped end portions of the core, providing complementary male and female joint ends to the core, grinding the outer surface of the core to a constant outer diameter less than the industry standard outer diameter to accommodate a finishing layer. The cores with the complementary joints are pressed end to end to form a core master prior to its being ground and then picking up the core masters one by one and bringing them into proximity of a web of liner board material having a length which corresponds to the length of the core master and a width which corresponds to the circumference of the core, contacting the glue bearing liner board web with the core and rotating the core to wrap the web of liner board about the core to provide a finished restored core. The core master is then cut into suitable length winding cores.

    Abstract: A core stabilization apparatus and method are implemented. An inner barrel having a plurality of ports disposed circumferentially and axially in a wall thereof is provided. A gas manifold is attached to a first subsets of the ports. Gas is delivered to an interior of the inner barrel via the gas manifold and the corresponding ports. Drilling mud remaining in the interior of the inner barrel is expelled through a second subset of ports. After expulsion of the drilling mud, a stabilizing compound is injected into the interior via an injection manifold attached to the second subset of ports. Upon curing of the stabilizing compound, the inner barrel and core sample contained therein may be sectioned or otherwise manipulated.

A first set of data is obtained from a vertical seismic profile (VSP) survey and a second set from reverse seismic profile survey by reversing the locations of the sources and receivers of the VSP survey. The two sets of data are combined to determine a transfer function or model, which is then applied to a set of 3D seismic data to obtain a seismic map of the area surveyed for the 3D data.

    Abstract: An assembly for securing an electrode lead within a burr hole formed in a patient's skull. The assembly is provided for reliably, easily, and reversibly securing an implanted electrode lead such that the active portion of the lead which is inside the brain tissue within the skull is not subject to unwanted translations when the external portion of the lead is manipulated. The securing assembly has two separate components. The first is a bone port which seats within a preformed burr hole in the skull. The bone port is a cylindrical shaped short tube which includes a means for gripping the skull on the external periphery of the cylinder. The central axial hole of the port is designed to receive the second lead-locking portion of the assembly. The external surface of the lead-locking portion and the interior surface of the central axial hole of the port include an easily engageable coupling means, for example a bayonet locking mechanism.

The oscillator output signal remains at a first level for the delayed start duration in response to the timing signal and subsequently transitions between the first and second levels at an operational frequency determined by the plurality of inverting stages until the oscillator enable signal transitions to the second state thereof.

The coaxial cable feeds the driven element via the miscrostrip transmission line and &OHgr;c is approximately equal to &OHgr;d. Further, the spacing between the reflector element, the driven element, and director elements are chosen so that an optimum balance is achieved between directional gain and performance sensitivity. The printed Yagi antenna has a partial folded driven element having a J shape which is grounded at the mid-point of the longest portion of the element. The configuration allows for a coaxial cable to be attached directly to the microstrip transmission line without the use of a matching network or balun.

The density of the core may be determined by counting the &ggr; flux attenuated by the core; by traversing the carriage along a length of the core, the density may be determined as a function of position, and disrupted core or partial recovery detected thereby. Additionally, the natural &ggr; emission of the core may be observed by traversing the apparatus along the core without the radionuclide source.
