Patent number: 10736025Abstract: Fifth generation (5G) non-standalone (NSA) radio access system employing virtual fourth generation (4G) master connection to enable dual system data connectivity. The 5G NSA radio access system employs a virtual 4G radio access node (RAN) to provide a logical master data connection to a user mobile communications device, and a 5G RAN to provide an additional, secondary high-speed data plane between the user mobile communications device to a core network. The virtual 4G RAN does not provide an actual 4G radio connection over-the-air to the user mobile communications device. Instead, the signaling transported between the user mobile communications device and the virtual 4G RAN is provided over a non-radio connection, such as an internet protocol (IP) connection. In this manner, the deployment of the 5G NSA radio access system employing the virtual 4G RAN can be achieved without updating existing 4G RANs and/or without deploying a new 4G RAN infrastructure.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 2018Date of Patent: August 4, 2020Assignee: Corning Optical Communications LLCInventors: Kalle Ahmavaara, Yashodhan A Dandekar

Patent number: 10725259Abstract: A fiber terminal rack mount with front-to-back fiber routing management is disclosed herein. The terminal rack mount is configured to be mounted in a remote terminal to facilitate fiber management of fiber optic cables routed from fiber optic equipment. In exemplary aspects disclosed herein, the fiber terminal rack mount comprises two vertically oriented panels with a plurality of horizontally oriented shelves positioned therebetween. The panels are configured to mount to vertical rails of a remote terminal cabinet of the fiber terminal. The panels and shelves also define routing channels for routing fiber optic cables therethrough, thereby facilitating front-to-back fiber routing between fiber optic equipment mounted in the fiber terminal. In this manner, as an example, the fiber terminal rack mount may more easily support fiber routing between back-to-back mounted fiber optic equipment, which may increase as fiber optic connectivity density increases.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 2019Date of Patent: July 28, 2020Assignee: Corning Optical Communications LLCInventors: Richard David Morris, Diana Rodriguez

Patent number: 10728814Abstract: A method for upgrading an access controller that controls and coordinates a plurality of radio nodes (RNs) each associated with a cell in a cluster of cells belonging to a radio access network includes initializing a new access controller. The new access controller is to replace a current access controller currently controlling and coordinating the plurality of RNs cell in the cluster. A most lightly loaded one of the plurality of RNs is identified. All UEs currently attached to the identified RN is caused to be handed off to a neighboring cell in the cluster. After all the UEs have been handed-off from the identified RN, the identified RN is rebooted so that it is being controlled and coordinated by the new access controller. The steps of causing the UEs to be handed-off and rebooting the identified RN are repeated for a second one of the plurality of RNs.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 2018Date of Patent: July 28, 2020Assignee: Corning Optical Communications LLCInventor: Darshan Purohit
