Abstract: The present invention provides a method and means to change fatty acid and ultimately triacylglycerol production in plants and algae. Methods of the invention comprise the step of altering the activity levels of the committed step for de novo fatty acid biosynthesis, acetyl-CoA carboxylases (ACCase). More specifically, methods of the invention directly enhance the activity of ACCase by down-regulating the biotin/lipoyl attachment domain containing (BADC) genes through biotechnology or selective breeding approaches.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a new and improved non-invasive bed sensing system for detecting and monitoring physiological movements such as heartbeat and respiration. The system may employ a hydraulic fluid to transduce the physiological pressures to an integrated pressure sensor and a new and improved signal processing method to identify individual cardiac pulses from the electronic signals generated by the hydraulic transducer. The system provides increased sensitivity capable of capturing quantitative pulse and respiration rates with subtle changes, ability to distinguish between instances of low pulse rate and shallow breathing, and improved comfort over existing systems.

Abstract: System, method and media for quantifying bulbar function of a subject. At a high level, embodiments of the invention measure and quantify bulbar function of a test subject based on video data, audio data, or other sensor data of a subject performing a test of bulbar function, such as speech, swallowing, and orofacial movements. This sensor data is then analyzed to identify key events such as syllable enunciations. Based on one or more characteristics of these key events (such as, for example, their rate, count, assessed accuracy, or trends over time), the bulbar function of the subject can accurately, reliably, and objectively be quantified.
