Abstract: The invention provides isolated nucleic acid and amino acid sequences of HsKif16a, antibodies to HsKif16a, methods of screening for HsKif16a modulators using biologically active HsKif16a, and kits for screening for HsKif16a modulators.
Abstract: A system for acquiring knowledge from cellular information. The system has a database comprising a database management module (“DBMS”). The system also has a variety of modules, including a population module coupled to the DBMS for categorizing and storing a plurality of features (e.g., cell size, distance between cells, cell population, cell type) from an image acquisition device into the database. The system has a translation module coupled to the DBMS for defining a descriptor from a set of selected features from the plurality of features. In a specific embodiment, the descriptor is for a known or unknown compound, e.g., drug. A prediction module is coupled to the DBMS for selecting one of a plurality of a descriptors from known and unknown compounds from the database based upon a selected descriptor from a selected compound. The selected compound may be one that is useful for treatment of human beings or the like.

Abstract: The present invention relates to protein modulators, especially modulators of kinesin bioactivities. The present invention provides methods for screening protein modulators, e.g., kinesin modulators that bind to a region of a kinesin and/or that modulate kinesin bioactivities. The present invention also provide methods and compositions for treatment of disorders mediated by abnormal cellular proliferation activities.
Abstract: The invention provides isolated nucleic acid and amino acid sequences of HsKifC2, antibodies to HsKifC2, methods of screening for HsKifC2 modulators using biologically active HsKifC2, and kits for screening for HsKifC2 modulators.
Abstract: A method quantitatively analyzes images of two different cell types that interact in producing and maintaining a disease state or other biological condition. The two separate cell types are exposed to an agent or stimulus suspected of influencing the biological condition (e.g., the agent might be a potential therapeutic for treating a cancer). The two different cell types are co-cultured or otherwise allowed to interact with one another before and during exposure to the agent. The images of the cells show how the agent affects the cells' phenotypes, including their viability, migration patterns, etc. The method generates a quantitative phenotype for each cell type by quantitatively analyzing the cell images via an automatic procedure. The quantitative phenotypes typically take the form of a group of scalar or vector descriptors that together provide a “fingerprint.” The descriptors may be size values, positions, morphological values, intensity distributions, etc.
Abstract: The invention provides isolated nucleic acid and amino acid sequences of HsKif2x, antibodies to HsKif2x, methods of screening for HsKif2x modulators using biologically active HsKif2x, and kits for screening for HsKif2x modulators.

Abstract: Described herein are methods of producing kinesins. In a preferred embodiment, the kinesins are produced from a prokaryote, most preferably, a bacterial cell. Bacterial expression offers several advantages over systems previously utilized, such as, for example, Bacculovirus. The yield of protein is higher, the cost of the expression setup is lower, and creation of alternative expression vectors is easier. The concern of copurifying a contaminating activity from the expression host is also eliminated since bacteria, in contrast to the bacculovirus expression system, do not have kinesin like proteins. Also described herein are purified kinesins, preferably unglycosylated and methods of use.
