Abstract: A laser system based on nonlinear pulse compression and a LMA optical fiber therefor are provided. The LMA optical fiber is configured to amplify seed light pulses and promote the onset of nonlinear spectral broadening. The LMA optical fiber includes a first section having constant core and cladding diameters and receiving and supporting propagation of the light pulses in multiple transversal modes. The first section is configured to suppress high order modes propagating therealong. The LMA optical fiber further includes a tapered second section receiving the fundamental mode from the first section, the core and cladding diameters increasing gradually along said second section so as to provide an adiabatic transition of the fundamental mode. The LMA optical fiber further includes an optional third section having constant core and cladding diameters. Dispersive compression of the light pulses outputted by the LMA optical fiber provides excellent beam quality and high peak powers.

Abstract: The invention provides methods for the synthesis of a halichondrin macrolides or analogs thereof through a cyclization reaction strategy. The strategy of the present invention involves subjecting an intermediate to Prins reaction conditions to afford a macrolide. The invention also provides compounds useful as intermediates in the synthesis of a halichondrin macrolides or analogs thereof and methods for preparing the same.

Abstract: A portable device is shown for transporting asphalt repair materials for use in repairing potholes in asphalt pavements. The device has a body with a hopper compartment for transporting and dispensing asphalt mix materials. Emulsion oils are held and dispensed from a separate emulsion oil tank. An emulsion pump provides emulsion oils to a spray wand. The emulsion oil tank includes an emulsion rejuvenator apparatus which works to prevent separation of the emulsion oils. A control circuit actuates the rejuvenator any time that the emulsion pump is turned on to supply emulsion oils to a spray wand to spray emulsions onto the road repair site.

Abstract: Methods for decreasing harmful effects of blue light on skin are disclosed that include topically administering to a subject in need thereof a composition of an effective quantity of a purified, enzymatic hydrolysate of Theobroma cacao L. beans comprising peptides and saccharides having a molecular weight between 200 Da and 10 kDa in a physiologically acceptable medium. The hydrolysate of Theobroma cacao L. beans is present in the composition at a concentration from 0.001 to 20% with respect to the total weight of the composition. The composition can be a cosmetic composition.

The working solution is prepared from the following components in parts by weight: 100 parts of waste drilling fluids, 50-100 parts of slag, 5-50 parts of red mud, 4-7 parts of a suspension stabilizer, 1-7 parts of an activating aid, 0.5-5 parts of an anti-pollution agent and 0.4-3.5 parts of a diluent. The waste drilling fluids are waste waterborne drilling fluids. The slag is blast furnace slag or vanadium-titanium slag. The suspension stabilizer is sodium bentonite, carboxymethyl cellulose or a mixture of sodium bentonite and carboxymethyl cellulose. The activating aid is sodium metasilicate nonahydrate, sodium carbonate or a mixture of sodium metasilicate nonahydrate and sodium carbonate. The anti-pollution agent is sodium salicylate, potassium citrate or a mixture of sodium salicylate and potassium citrate. The diluent is sodium lignin sulfonate.
