Abstract: A plurality of metallic wire conductors are fitted in shunt along a shorted wave guide parallel to a dielectric field of electromagnetic wave incident to the wave guide. At least some of the wires have diodes mounted on them such that selective biasing of the diodes renders these wires discontinuous and causes a controlled phase shift of the incident wave.
Abstract: A loudspeaker is disclosed in which the frustoconical diaphragm is formed in two parts, including a first or outer part made of synthetic material e.g. polypropylene or polystyrene, and a second or inner part of paper or plastic material having higher heat resistance than the first part. The second part is therefore able to withstand the high temperatures of the moving coil support to which it is attached while affording advantages of synthetic material diaphragms.
Abstract: Batteries, accumulators or electrochemical generators of electric energy, the negative electrode (anode) of which consists of at least one alkaline halide, in aqueous or alkaline solution, or of one metallic halide, and one auxiliary electrode collecting current. The positive electrode (cathode) consists of at least one metallic hydroxide or oxide which can be in solution in the electrolyte and which, preactivated or regenerated continuously by the presence of air or oxygen introduced into the alkaline solution bathing the cathode, supplies the hydroxyl ions necessary for the oxidation of the halide constituting the anode. Furthermore, some compounds of the anode, according to the invention, can be thermally or photonically regenerated.Various applications of these devices, in particular sea water, can be implemented for the supply of electric energy, using easily available and cheap fuel.

Abstract: The invention covers a fluidizing grid capable of high temperature operation, comprising a series of vertical fluidizing tubes attached to a support. This grid comprises a metal tank on the bottom of which are attached metal fluidizing tubes, of equal length, protruding an equal amount from the bottom to thereby allow a layer of particles to rest on the bottom of the tank and form a thermal screen.
Abstract: A refractory composite material has a nickel-based matrix, containing chromium, hardened by elements such as W in solid solution and hardened by precipitation of a .gamma.'(Ni,Xi).sub.3 (Al,Yi) phase, Xi representing elements different from Ni and Yi elements different from Al which the matrix may contain and which are respectively substituted for Ni and Al atoms in the formation of the .gamma.' precipitate, and with aligned monocrystalline fibers of a transition metal monocarbide, preferably niobium monocarbide, imbedded in said matrix, as obtained by unidirectional solidification. The chromium proportion of the material is maintained at a value lower than that from which the chromium carbide of formula Cr.sub.23 C.sub.6 is formed in the matrix at the expense of the niobium carbide of the reinforcement fibers at the operating temperatures foreseen for the material.

Abstract: An adjustable end bracket (10) for use with a modular coated wire closet shelf (12) of the type having upper and lower front rails (14, 16) and a plurality of evenly spaced stringers (20) is disclosed. The bracket is formed of a bracket arm (32) having two parallel horizontal grooves (48) dimensioned to fit against the back side of the upper and lower front rails of the shelf, and a block (34) having two parallel horizontal grooves (46) to fit against the front side of the upper and lower front rails. The block includes a plurality of ribs (36) forming vertical slots (38) for engaging the portion of the stringer which is attached to the front rails and a pair of bolts (40) which extend outwardly from the block through holes (50) in the bracket arm so that the bracket can be clamped together by wing nuts (42) threaded on the bolts. The bracket arm is attached to an end plate (30) having a pair of prongs (28) for engaging an adjacent closet wall (26).
Abstract: A carpenter's level is formed in two sections, connected together by a pivot near the top of the sections whereby the level may be adjusted to various positions including at least a straight, linearly aligned position and a right angle position. When in the linear configuration, the surfaces of two cooperating sections are flush, without protrusions. A pair of extending flanges on the main section overlap the other, adjustable section by extending into complementarily shaped recesses in the sides of the adjustable section, and the adjustable section includes a projecting insert which extends into a recess formed in the main section, so that the flanges, recesses and insert cooperate to provide stability and alignment of the two sections. Position-holding projections on the inside surfaces of the extending flanges are engageable with sets of depressions formed in the recesses of the adjustable section, positioned to hold the two level sections at selected angles.
Abstract: This invention relates to an electrically conductive white coating of the paint type, which has a solar absorption .alpha..sub.S not greater than 0.30, a hemispherical emission factor .epsilon. not less than 0.80, a surface resistance R.sub.S, measured in a vacuum less than 10.sup.-5 torr, not greater than 10.sup.9 ohms/square, and which meets the degasification-pollution requirements, characterized in that the coating comprises (a) a layer which is a good conductor of electricity and (b) a white layer which is a poor conductor of electricity and which is applied on top of layer (a). The coating is for use in the space and aeronautical industries.

Abstract: An amplifier system with automatic distortion control including an amplifier provided with a detector between the amplifier output and feedback ports for detecting a nonlinear condition with a balanced differential circuit connected to the detector and feeding a full wave threshold detector which charges a storage capacitor proportionally to the percent clipping of the output signal of the amplifier. The storage capacitor is discharged into an input variable gain amplifier in the amplifier input circuit to reduce the gain for minimizing clipping.

Abstract: In a system for broadcasting data in combination with a television signal, he emitting station broadcasts, sets (blocks) of data which may be in-coming from several paths, the sets of data being time multiplexed. The present invention makes it possible to use the same television broadcast system, regardless of the television standards which may be used, with a minimum of modifications in the conventional television receivers. The frequence of the binary elements used to transmit data is made to vary as a function of the band width of the television signal which in turn, corresponds to the TV broadcast used in the area where the data is broadcast.

Abstract: Apparatus for dry chemical etching caused by ion bombardment of a substrate placed in a vacuum chamber. The substrate is in contact with an electrode, connected to a high frequency bias voltage source having one terminal connected to a ground of the chamber. The etchants are produced in the form of plasma by an electrical discharge maintained in the chamber containing a gas or a suitable gaseous mixture. The plasma is produced by a microwave generator and the bias voltage by means of a high frequency source. The respective amplitudes and frequencies of the two sources enable the base of a groove on an electronic circuit to be etched without erosion of the groove.
