Abstract: Disclosed is an acoustic resonance spectrometry system for analysing a sample, which includes an optical pump-probe device adapted to generate a pump beam and a probe beam, the pump beam being consisted of a series of ultra-short pump light pulses having a repetition frequency in the spectral domain of the gigahertz, the pump beam being directed towards an optoacoustic transducer to generate a periodic grating of coherent acoustic phonons in the sample, the probe beam being directed towards the sample to form a scattering beam of the probe beam on the grating of phonons, a frequency variation device being adapted to vary the repetition frequency of the pump beam in a spectral range and a photo-detection system configured to measure a scattering signal as a function of the repetition frequency in the spectral range.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are described for forming a pattern including one or more markings on a substrate. The method includes the step of forming each marking by locally heating the substrate, for example using a fibre laser. A step is also performed of monitoring the temperature of the substrate, e.g. using a temperature sensor, whilst each marking is being formed. The method may be used to form a magnetic encoder scale on a stainless steel substrate having a high content of martensitic material. The local heating causes the martensitic material to be transformed into austenitic material. An encoder scale made using the method is also described.

Abstract: A universal ring and plate assembly is disclosed for use with an electrical or utility box. The universal ring and plate design can achieve any finish wall thickness by stacking plates and securing them to the universal ring, even after the drywall, tile, stone and/or other wall materials have been installed. The universal ring and plate simplifies the current installation process, eliminates the need for the multiple different depth rings, and accommodates all changes to the finished wall thickness by the owner, architect or builder, without having to tear down portions of the finished wall.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention may be used to perform measurement of surfaces, such as external and internal surfaces of the human body, in full-field and in 3-D. Abstract: The invention provides crystalline forms of biphenyl-2-ylcarbamic acid 1-(2-{[4-(4-carbamoylpiperidin-1-ylmethyl)benzoyl]methylamino}ethyl)piperidin-4-yl ester, and pharmaceutically acceptable solvates thereof. Abstract: Provided is a container including a main body, a lid body, and a fixing mechanism that fixes the lid body to prevent the lid body from opening from the main body when the lid body is closed, the fixing being released when the lid body moves to a front side with respect to the main body. Cutouts are formed in side plates of the main body. Abstract: A method for suppressing an immune response is provided. The method involves administration of isolated lymphoid tissue-derived suppressive stromal cells (LSSC) to a subject in need of such treatment in an amount effective to suppress the immune response in the subject. The invention also involves a method to isolate LSSC by digesting lymphoid tissue fragments using a combination of an enzyme mix and agitation and then collecting the LSSC. Pharmaceutical preparations comprising LSSC are also provided.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method for predicting subject's responsiveness to a corticosteroid medical regimen, prior to the start of the medical regimen, the method comprising the step of determining the amount of miR218-5p in an isolated test sample of the subject, wherein if no miR218-5p amount is present in the sample, it is indicative that the subject will be responder to the medical regimen, and if miR218-5p is detected in the test sample it is indicative that the subject will not respond to the medical regimen. The invention also provides the use of means for determining the amount of miR218-5p for predicting subject's responsiveness to a corticosteroid medical regimen.
