Abstract: The present inventor has established protein abundance index (PAI, ?) to determine the protein contents in a protein mixture solution using nanoLC-MSMS data. Digested peptides were analyzed by nanoLC-MS/MS and the obtained results were applied to a Mascot protein identification algorism based on tandem mass spectra. For absolute quantitation, PAI was converted to exponentially modified PAI (EMPAI, m ?), which is proportional to protein contents in the protein mixture. EMPAI was successfully applied to comprehensive protein expression analysis and performed a comparison study between gene and protein expression in an HCT116 human cancer cells. Accordingly, the present invention provides a method and a computer program for quantifying the protein contents based on the protein abundance index.

Abstract: SQUIDs may detect local magnetic fields. SQUIDS of varying sizes, and hence sensitivities may detect different magnitudes of magnetic fields. SQUIDs may be oriented to detect magnetic fields in a variety of orientations, for example along an orthogonal reference frame of a chip or wafer. The SQUIDS may be formed or carried on the same chip or wafer as a superconducting processor (e.g., a superconducting quantum processor). Measurement of magnetic fields may permit compensation, for example allowing tuning of a compensation field via a compensation coil and/or a heater to warm select portions of a system. A SQIF may be implemented as a SQUID employing an unconventional grating structure. Successful fabrication of an operable SQIF may be facilitated by incorporating multiple Josephson junctions in series in each arm of the unconventional grating structure.

Abstract: An electric storage water heater with double cathodic protection includes a sacrificial anode (5) and an impressed current anode (6) combined so as to provide cathodic protection, even in the absence of a power supply. The sacrificial anode (5) surrounds the impressed current anode (6) so as to prevent any contact of the impressed current anode (6) with the water of the water tank before consumption of the sacrificial anode (6).
Abstract: A system, method, and computer program product for predicting operation for physical systems with distinct operating modes uses observable qualities of the system to predict other qualities of the system. Independent variables including temperature or production volume are observed to determine the degree to which a dependent modeled variable, including energy load, is influenced. Partition variables representing operating conditions of the dependent variables are defined as discrete values. Reference datasets with coincident values of the dependent variable, independent variable, and partition variables are received, and models are created for each discrete value of the partition variables in the reference dataset. Each model is populated with the values of the dependent variable and the independent variable. The dependent variable is modeled as a function of the independent variable.
Abstract: A cryptographic message signature method are provided, which have strengthened security. The method implements two sets of signature algorithms SA1={K1, S1, V1} and SA2={K2, S2, V2}, where Ki, Si and Vi are key generation algorithms, signature generation algorithms and signature verification algorithms, respectively. The method includes: a step of generating permanent keys using the algorithm K1, delivering a pair of private and public keys {sk1, pk1}; and, for at least one message m to be signed: a signature step including sub-steps. The sub-steps include: receipt of the message m to be signed; generation of an ephemeral key pair {sk2,pk2} using the algorithm K2; calculation, by the signature algorithm S2, of the signature s2 of the message m by the private key sk2; calculation, by the signature algorithm S1, of the signature c1 of the public key pk2 by the private key sk1; and providing the strengthened signature {s2, c1, pk2}.

Abstract: Methods, an apparatus, and a system for communications using multiplexed packets including payloads of the current and at least one preceding packet are disclosed. The invention is able to implement both robustness and a degree of compression while still being able to operate in environments of limited bandwidth having high rates of packet loss, such as in wireless VoIP networks.
Abstract: A switching cell for a demultiplexer circuit includes a superconducting input signal path, at least two superconducting output signal paths, and transformers located between an intersection node and respective ends of the output signal paths. Flux applied via the transformers can influence which direction a signal propagates. The switching cell may also include power input nodes. Switching cells may be arranged in various configurations, for example a binary tree or H-tree. A superconducting inductor ladder circuit can perform a digital-to-analog conversion. Flux storage structures may be used with individual switching cells. Latching qubits may be employed. Buffer rows of switching cells may be used to reduce or eliminate cascade error.

Abstract: In the field of current differential protection relays there is a need for improvements in or relating to the protection relays to allow them to accommodate current transformer saturation while maintaining a desired degree of reliability. A method of operating a current differential protection relay following a fault, the protection relay being electrically coupled to a protection zone of an electrical power system, comprises the steps of establishing a fault condition by discriminating between an internal fault inside the protection zone and an external fault outside the protection zone; and modifying the sensitivity of the protection relay according to the nature of the fault condition.
Abstract: A method of in-mold coating utilizing an injection molding machine oriented to a horizontal parting line. At the beginning of the cycle the mold opens and a charge of liquid coating solution is deposited onto the lower mold insert. A ophthalmic wafer is deposited on the coating to spread it across the insert surface. The mold is closed and a pre-cure phase elapses before the thermoplastic resin is injected into the mold cavity above the wafer. The process provides coated and functionally enhanced lenses upon ejection from the molding machine.
