  • Patent number: 5914872
Abstract: The invention is a converter-fed drive system having at least one drive motor fed by a converter unit. The converter unit has a valve assembly containing semiconductor valves, a cooler for cooling the semiconductor valves and a capacitor assembly are mounted directly on the drive motor. There is also an inductor assembly, that is electrically connected to the converter unit, but is installed such that it is spatially separated from the converter unit and the drive motor. The cooler is simultaneously used to cool the drive motor as well as the converter unit.

  • Patent number: 5911536
Abstract: A joint for deploying and locking a solar panel or a reflector has a fork which is pivotable through 180.degree. about a common pivot axis with a fixed bearing support. A disk mounted on the fixed bearing support has a sliding curve that terminates in a groove. A latching fork mounted rotatably on pivotable fork has a latching bolt and sliding roller which runs on the sliding curve when the pivotable fork deploys, and together with a latching bolt, engages the groove. A leg spring engages the latching bolt. The sliding curve has a shape such that during the first half of a deployment angle of the fork that is pivoted by the force of a coil spring, a decreasing portion of the coil spring moment is stored in leg spring. In the second half of the deployment angle, a moment 16 stored in leg spring 9 is again added increasingly to the movement, so that during deployment, an approximately constant corrected deployment moment is provided.

  • Patent number: 5912081
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for painting an object during a creative shaping process, for example an injection-molding, extrusion-molding, or back-foaming method with a paint film, as well as a paint film for working the method. In the method, a paint film is placed in an open mold that internally has the original shape of the part. The mold is closed and filled with a starting material, with the starting material curing and/or bonding and/or reacting inside the mold to at least shape the object. To simplify the method, the paint in the paint layer of the paint film is partially cured and/or partially crosslinked before the starting material is added, without adhesive, and is cured only during and/or after the starting material is placed in the mold.

  • Patent number: 5910097
Abstract: A motor vehicle exhaust emission control system has two adsorber parts connected in parallel for alternate adsorption and desorption of nitrogen oxides contained in the exhaust from an internal combustion engine and components for conducting further downstream the exhaust that emerges in the adsorber part that is operating at any given time in the adsorption mode and for returning the exhaust that emerges from the other adsorber part that is then operating in the desorption mode, to an intake line of the engine. An oxidizing converter is located upstream of the adsorber part and near the engine for oxidation of the NO contained in the exhaust to form NO.sub.2, so as to permit an increase in the NO.sub.X adsorption rate for the nitrogen adsorber parts.

  • Patent number: 5906945
Abstract: A method for testing and determining the alloy class of an aluminum alloy may be simply and easily carried out, for unequivocally determining the correct alloy class among the aluminum alloy classes 2XXX, 5XXX or 6XXX, and 7XXX, of the test sample. According to the method, the material sample is dissolved in hydrochloric acid (HCL) to prepare a first solution, then nitric acid (HNO.sub.3) is added drop-wise to the first solution in order to cause oxidation of any insoluble copper (Cu) therein and form a second solution, then a potassiumhexacyanoferrate (II) solution (K.sub.4 ?Fe(CN).sub.6 !) is added to the second solution to bring about a discoloration and precipitation reaction and form a final resulting solution. Finally, the applicable alloy class of the tested material sample is determined by visually categorizing the color and precipitation state of the resulting solution.

  • Patent number: 5906338
Abstract: The sun search method for a satellite stabilized in three axes according to the invention uses a sun sensor device with a visual field possibly containing gaps, and a rotational speed gyro which measures in a measuring axis that is oriented arbitrarily. A regulating law with the form .tau.=-kGG.sup.T .omega. is used (.tau.=regulating torque, k=amplification factor, G=directional vector of measuring axis of rotational speed gyro, .omega.=rotational speed vector of the satellite). A rotational wheel momentum H which is not parallel to the measuring axis, is generated with the aid of an additional flywheel device.
