  • Patent number: 5931006
Abstract: An air-conditioning unit is provided for a vehicle with an air-conditioning function depending on the outside dew point. The air-conditioning unit includes a device for determining the dew point temperature of the outside air, an air duct leading to a window of the vehicle and having a controllable closing device, a device for determining the temperature of the air blown through the ducts leading to the window of the vehicle and a control device for automatically opening and closing the air duct leading to a window of the vehicle by appropriately energizing the air duct closing device. The control device, in the cooling operation of the air conditioning unit, opens and closes this air duct automatically as a function of the dew point temperature determined for the outside air and as a function of the temperature determined for the air blown out through this air duct.

  • Patent number: 5931390
Abstract: In a valve for the dosed discharge of fluids particularly a fuel injection valve for fuel injection systems of internal combustion engines, the valve includes in an valve housing at the front end of an injector housing a valve structure at a fluid discharge end of the valve housing and a stack of piezo elements disposed in the opposite end of the injector housing and a high pressure fluid passages leads to the fluid discharge end which is isolated from the area in which the stack of piezo elements is disposed and which is in communication with a low pressure drain passage such that the piezo elements are not exposed to the high pressure fluid. Isolation is obtained by a compensation cylinder movably disposed in an annular space between, and in sealing relationship with, the valve housing, the piezo stack being enclosed in a piezo guide tube which is sealingly connected to the valve housing.

  • Patent number: 5927790
Abstract: A motor vehicle instrument panel has a basic body and a trim strip which is fastened to it and extends horizontally and is visible from the vehicle occupant compartment. The trim strip is constructed in a stable manner with a low weight. For this purpose, the trim strip is constructed as a reinforcing support and covers the whole width of the basic body of the instrument panel, in which case this reinforcing support can additionally form-lockingly reach around the lateral ends of the basic body.

  • Patent number: 5927129
Abstract: A process and an extrusion arrangement are suggested for cutting extruded hollow profiles while heated from the extruding process heat into the required lengths by means of a high-energy beam or jet moved along with the extruding operation. The interior of the extruded hollow profile is filled with a light-weight material at least at the cutting points. The light-weight material is advantageously an expansive foam mass, such as an aluminum foam or a plastic foam. The filling of the extruded hollow profile takes place either by coextrusion or by way of an arbor or a hollow-chamber bottom die of the extrusion arrangement.

  • Patent number: 5924508
Abstract: A process carries out an automatic braking operation in which, when the return speed of the accelerator pedal exceeds a threshold value and a transfer of the driver's foot from the accelerator pedal to the brake pedal is determined, an automatic braking operation is triggered. During that operation, a brake pressure is generated in the wheel brakes and is terminated when either a defined time has been exceeded since the triggering of the braking operation or when an operation of the brake pedal takes place by the driver. A support of the driver is ensured when operating the brake pedal in critical driving situations and a brake pressure buildup is carried out even before the operation of the brake pedal by the driver. After the automatic braking operation has been triggered, monitoring occurs to determine whether the time derivation of a quantity representing the operation of the brake pedal exceeds a threshold rise value.

  • Patent number: 5924333
Abstract: A cover plate for the opening of a shift assembly covering with a gate in this plate for receiving a selector lever of an automatic transmission of a motor vehicle, the selector lever to be moved in the plate on a shift assembly. The cover plate must always be closed with separate mounting of the plate and the covering despite necessary compensating dimensional tolerances, that in arrangements of these two parts within the entire tolerance range, no visually disturbing impression is created. A cover plate permanently connected with the shift assembly covers the edge area of the opening of the covering with play over a covering area that takes into account the dimensional tolerances between the installation positions of the covering and the shift assembly.

  • Patent number: 5924411
Abstract: A method operates an improved internal combustion engine by heating the fuel before entry into the cylinder, at least during the cold-start phase of the engine. In order to undertake the heating step in a favorable way, at least areas in the region of an intake valve are irradiated with an electromagnetic radiation of radiation source, and thereby heated without contact. As a result, liquid fuel in the valve region is heated by contact with the areas of the valve region, and condensation of the fuel is at least reduced.
