Patent number: 5673866Abstract: A coil form with a coil support and with a winding applied thereto, whose turns are provided with a coil bond material. The bond material contains a volatile solvent and mutually fixes the turns when dried (in a dry state). To guarantee an essentially uniform, nearly solvent residue-free drying of the coil bond in the entire winding even in the case of a very large number of coil layers, the coil support is a porous coil support having open pores. The coil support has a diffusion coefficient with respect to the solvent that is equal to or slightly lower than that of the winding.Type: GrantFiled: May 7, 1996Date of Patent: October 7, 1997Assignee: Daimler-Benz Aerospace AGInventors: Elmar Albert, Kuno Roder

Patent number: 5674087Abstract: A two-part screw-type coupling suitable for coupling together electrical and/or mechanical components in an aircraft, for example, has a rotation lock feature that prevents the unintentional spontaneous loosening of the screwed connection as a result of vibration and shock. The coupling includes a generally cylindrical support body and a collar nut rotatably mounted thereon and retained by a retaining element. A rotation lock element locks the collar nut and the support body together against relative rotation. The lock element includes a spring or a spring-loaded ring, which is rigidly connected to the collar nut or the support body and which applies a sufficient clamping tension against the other part of the coupling to achieve the desired locking function. The rotation lock can provide a finely stepped static adjustment and locking, or a fine step-less dynamic adjustment and locking of the tightening torque of the collar nut on a component to which the coupling is screw-connected.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 1996Date of Patent: October 7, 1997Assignee: Daimler-Benz Aerospace Airbus GmbHInventor: Safa Kirma

Patent number: 5672629Abstract: This invention relates to a process and an apparatus for the catalytic water vapor reforming of methanol. The reforming process is carried out in two stages. The methanol is incompletely reacted in the first stage in a heat-transfer-optimized process with a high specific catalyst load. In a reaction-optimized second stage, while the specific catalyst load is lower, a further reaction is carried out which completes the methanol reaction. In addition, a tube bundle reactor is disclosed in which the first, heat-transfer-optimized stage takes place in reaction tubes which, for constructing heat transfer medium ducts, are each surrounded by a concentric outer tube, while the second, reaction-optimized stage is carried out after the return of the reform gas in the housing. The reaction tubes as well as the area between the outer tubes are filled with catalyst material.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 1995Date of Patent: September 30, 1997Assignee: Daimler-Benz AGInventors: Dietmar Heil, Uwe Benz

Patent number: 5647544Abstract: A method and apparatus for the single type recovery of plastic materials from starting pieces of a multiple composite material is disclosed. The starting pieces are firstly comminuted mechanically into particles of a size compatible with the process. These composite materials particularly are separated and a mixture of different materials is produced and, from this material mixture, the individual materials are isolated. For the recovery of starting pieces of prepreg fabric from flexible cutting residues, lined with films on both sides, the following steps are performed in sequence. First, the starting pieces are comminuted by cutting them up into shreds of composite material. Then the shreds of composite material are cooled down to temperatures below room temperature and, in a cold state, are subjected to a mechanical alternating bending stress and/or a shearing stress, the films becoming detached from the prepreg pieces in a scale-like manner to form a mixture.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 1996Date of Patent: July 15, 1997Assignee: Daimler-Benz AGInventors: Ralph Greiner, Michele Melchiorre, Bjorn Stuckrad

Patent number: 5646852Abstract: A method and an apparatus are provided for controlling the power of an electric drive unit in a vehicle. The drive unit is supplied with electrical energy by a fuel cell in the vehicle. On the basis of a power request which is determined from the accelerator pedal position, the air flow rate required to provide the set power from the fuel cell is calculated and set by controlling rotational speed of a compressor arranged in the air intake line to the fuel cell. To prevent the fuel cell from producing more electrical power than the drive unit can absorb, the drive unit acts limits the power request by emitting appropriate error messages. The set value for the power is fed to the drive unit and can be corrected such that the drive unit never demands more power than the amount of power instantaneously produced by the fuel cell to prevent fuel cell collapse.Type: GrantFiled: September 3, 1996Date of Patent: July 8, 1997Assignee: Daimler-Benz AktiengesellschaftInventors: Helmut Lorenz, Karl-Ernst Noreikat, Thomas Klaiber, Wolfram Fleck, Josef Sonntag, Gerald Hornburg, Andreas Gaulhofer

Patent number: 5645950Abstract: A process and an apparatus control output of an air-breathing fuel cell system which consists of an air supply line, a fuel cell, an air exhaust line, and a separate gas supply system for hydrogen gas. To control the fuel cell output, an adjustable rotary speed compressor is located in the air supply line and a variable absorption capacity expander is located in the air exhaust line. The compressor, the expander, and an additional electric motor are positioned on a common shaft. The expander converts the pressure energy contained in the exhaust air into mechanical energy and delivers that energy via the common shaft to the compressor. The air volume flow is controlled by the compressor rotary speed and adjusted to a preset value. A preset working pressure is established in the fuel cell system by adjusting the absorption capacity of the expander.Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 1995Date of Patent: July 8, 1997Assignee: Daimler-Benz AGInventors: Uwe Benz, Wolfram Fleck, Gerald Hornburg

Patent number: 5641031Abstract: An arrangement of a drive unit in a vehicle, having at least an electric traction motor, a fuel cell and a fuel tank. Two longitudinal beams situated at a distance from one another serve as supporting structure for the fuel-cell stack, which is mounted between the longitudinal beams in the underfloor region of the vehicle. Two transverse beams which extend at least over the region between the longitudinal beams may also be mounted at a distance from one another, so that a safety region is formed in which sensitive components of the drive unit can be protected against damage. The arrangement of individual components of the fuel-cell system in the underfloor region of the vehicle additionally provides the advantage that the passenger compartment or loading compartment can be of flat design.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 1995Date of Patent: June 24, 1997Assignee: Daimler-Benz AGInventors: Bernd Riemer, Thomas Klaiber
