  • Patent number: 4418675
Abstract: In compact vehicle diesel engines, injection pumps are accessible only with difficulty for the purpose of adjusting a starting time of fuel delivery. An adjusting device is provided which includes an adjusting bolt or screw which may easily be reached from a top side of the engine. The adjusting bolt or screw includes a collar which is adapted to engage in a corresponding annular slot provided in an installation flange of a housing of the fuel-injection pump. A threaded portion of the adjusting bolt or screw is threadably accommodated in a threaded member pivotably fastened to the engine. When the adjusting bolt or screw is turned, the injection pump may be rotatably adjusted while a camshaft of the fuel-injection pump, connected to a timing drive of an internal combustion engine, remains in a previous position, thereby varying the start time of fuel delivery of the fuel-injection pump.

  • Patent number: 4411243
Abstract: An externally ignited internal combustion engine, operable by a homogeneous fuel, wherein liquid fuel is completely vaporized and at an approximately relatively lean proportion is mixed with air to provide for quantity control of the fuel-air mixture. The quantity control remains limited to a lower part throttle or partial load range and above such range, fuel in a liquid condition is injected into the combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine to enable a quality control over the fuel mixture. The injection of the fuel is carried out so that the injected jet of fuel does not contact the relatively cold wall parts of combustion chambers of the respective cylinders of the internal combustion engine.

  • Patent number: 4409935
Abstract: A mechanical valve clearance compensator for internal combustion engines with cup tappet operation. A wedge provided with a wedge-shaped surface is supported in the cup tappet to be displaceable at right angles to a travel direction of the cup tappet. The wedge is under a constant action of a compression spring which acts in a direction toward clearance compensation and is intermittently acted upon in an opposite direction by an operating cam fixedly connected with the cam shaft. The operating cam is fashioned as a radial cam and acts upon a pin longitudinally displaceably guided in the cup tappet. The pin, in turn, is supported on a sliding surface of a wedge, with the sliding surface having a greater inclination than an inclination of the wedge-shaped surface.

  • Patent number: 4405183
Abstract: A brake valve useable in conjunction with a vehicle braking system monitored by an anti-locking device and operable by a brake pedal through a trailing spring sometimes also called a simulating spring. The brake valve is provided with a control slide valve longitudinally displaceable by the trailing spring. The slide valve regulates a metered feed of the pressure medium conducted from a pressure source to the wheel brake cylinders. The pressure medium is relieveable at the wheel brake cylinders by anti-lock valves. The slide valve includes two control slide valves of which is associated with a pressure reservoir. One control slide valve cooperates with an emergency piston providing free through-flow during normal operation of the braking system. The emergency piston, upon a failure of the pressure medium source, after an emptying of the pressure reservoirs, is operable mechanically by the brake pedal after a spring-loaded ball valve has been closed at the emergency piston.
