  • Patent number: 4450799
Abstract: A valve clearance compensator for an internal combustion engine. The compensator includes a sliding member provided with a wedge-shaped surface. The sliding members are arranged so as to be axially displaceable between each control cam of a camshaft and an associated valve. The sliding member is acted upon in one direction constantly by a compression spring but acted upon in the other direction intermittently by an adjusting member. The adjusting member is connected with the camshaft and is adapted to displace the sliding member against the force of the compression spring when the associated valve is in a closed position and over a partial range of a closed period of the valve.

  • Patent number: 4450797
Abstract: This invention relates to an internal combustion engine, particularly to a diesel engine. The engine comprises a crankshaft, which is connected to each of a plurality of pistons by a connecting rod and a piston pin. Each connecting rod has two bearings for the piston pin and a crankpin of the crankshaft, respectively. In order to provide a desired piston clearance between the piston at its top dead center and the bottom of the cylinder head, at least one of the bearings of the connecting rod is provided with an eccentric ring disposed between the receiving bore and the bearing bushing. During the assembling of the engine, the eccentric ring is rotated to such a position that the desired piston clearance is obtained. The bearing ring is then fixed in the resulting rotational position.

  • Patent number: 4448441
Abstract: This invention relates to an independent front axle suspension for passenger cars. The suspension possesses a lower guide member, which is set transversely to the longitudinal direction of the vehicle and is flexibly coupled to the vehicle body, and a shock absorber strut, or spring strut, which is located between this guide member and the vehicle body, on which strut a wheel carrier is retained. This wheel carrier is able to move about a steering axis and is coupled to a steering track rod extending in the transverse direction of the vehicle. The total mass of the front axle suspension is capable of vibrating about an instantaneous rotation axis which extends downwards from the upper coupling point of the shock absorber strut, or spring strut. This axis is orientated in space in such a manner that it intersects the axis of the steering track rod, or crosses this axis, lying at least in close proximity thereto.

  • Patent number: 4445276
Abstract: The invention relates to a crenellated, stepped end-gauge with an elongate supporting body and a plurality of end-gauge blocks which are secured thereon in a straight line. Stepped end-gauges of this type are used for checking multi-coordinate metrology equipment. In order to eliminate uncontrollable long-term influences affecting the dimensional accuracy of stepped end-gauges of this type, and in order to confer a definite temperature behavior on the stepped end-gauge, the upper surface region of the supporting body is provided with a groove which runs longitudinally and is preferably V-shaped. The eng-gauge blocks, which are preferably designed in the form of cylinders, are individually secured, spaced one behind another in the bottom of the groove. The groove expediently projects into the supporting body to a depth such that the central axis of the end-gauge blocks is axially coincident with the neutral bending axis or fiber of the supporting body.

  • Patent number: 4441326
Abstract: A process for cooling a passenger compartment of a vehicle equipped with a hydrogen-consuming engine by mechanical refrigeration involves compressing a gaseous coolant, condensing the resulting compressed and heated gaseous coolant with heat removal to liquefy the coolant, and evaporating the liquefied coolant under the action of a pressure relief valve so that the cold generated during the pressure relief is used to cool the passenger compartment. This process is improved by removing additional heat from the compressed coolant by passing the coolant through a metal hydride cooler.
