  • Patent number: 9429100
Abstract: A cooling duct piston (1) for combustion engines. The cooling duct piston has a piston basic body (2) that is connected to a lining part (3), which is facing an assigned combustion chamber. Here, the lining part (3) completely forms the piston surface (4) of the cooling duct piston (1) that faces the combustion chamber. An encircling depression (5) is provided in the surface of the piston basic body (2) facing the combustion chamber. The lining part (3) provides a permanent connection at least with the surface of the piston basic body (2) facing the combustion chamber, and thus bridges the encircling depression (5), such that the encircling depression (5), with the lining part (3) that bridges it, forms a cooling duct (6).

  • Patent number: 9429065
Abstract: An internal combustion engine (1), preferably for a motor vehicle, having at least one cylinder (2) which encloses a combustion chamber (3) and in which a piston (4) is situated in such a way that it may perform a stroke movement, and having at least one injector (5) per cylinder for injecting fuel into the combustion chamber (3). The respective injector (5) has multiple injection openings (9, 10) through which the fuel exits from the injector (5) and enters into the combustion chamber (3). To be able to react more fuel, first injection openings (9) and second injection openings (10) are situated relative to one another in such a way that first injection jets (15) from the first injection openings (9) reach the piston (4) essentially without contacting second injection jets (18) from the second injection openings (10).

  • Patent number: 9429053
Abstract: A method for operating an internal combustion engine having an exhaust emission control unit with at least one exhaust emission control component which acts catalytically and/or by filtration involves operating the internal combustion engine, during a cold start or warm-up of the internal combustion engine, using a cold start engine operating process with predefined values for predefined internal combustion engine operating variables. The cold start and/or the warm-up of the internal combustion engine is controlled or regulated as a function of soot loading of a particle filter of the exhaust emission control unit.

  • Publication number: 20160240881
Abstract: In certain configurations and applications, fuel cell stacks can be subject to damage arising from resonance. For instance, the natural frequency of lengthy automotive fuel cell stacks can be low enough to be problematic. Incorporating appropriate support bars between the compression straps holding such stacks together and the fuel cells in the stack can suitably increase the natural frequency in a relatively compact manner.
