Abstract: A motor vehicle has a driver assistance unit that includes a braking unit and at least one detection unit to detect an environmental parameter. The driver assistance unit can control performance of an autonomous deceleration of the motor vehicle in the case of a risk of collision, which is recognized using the environmental parameter. The driver assistance unit is formed in such a way that an autonomous emergency stop is only then able to be carried out if the motor vehicle has at least one reversible seat belt pre-tensioner.

Abstract: A method for preventing a collision of a vehicle involves continuously detecting an operation of a brake pedal of the vehicle and concluding a risk of collision if the brake pedal is operated quickly. A position and a movement of objects in the vehicle surroundings relative to the vehicle are detected and evaluated regarding the risk of collision. When a risk of collision has been detected, an evasion maneuver of the vehicle is automatically carried out, if the evaluation of the risk of collision reveals that a collision can be prevented by an evasion maneuver but not by a braking manoeuvre.

Abstract: A method for monitoring a vehicle passenger involves determining a current vital parameter value of at least one vital parameter of the vehicle passenger and, if necessary, a current environmental parameter value of at least one environmental parameter of an outer environmental of the vehicle. Depending upon the determined values, assistance can be provided to the vehicle passenger.
Abstract: Provided is a catalyst composition comprising an intermetallic phase comprising Pt and a metal selected from either Nb or Ta, and a dioxide of the metal. Also provided is a low temperature method for making such compositions that results in the formation of intermetallic phase with small crystallite size and thus greater mass activity. In particular, a Pt3Nb—NbO2 catalyst composition can be prepared that is useful as a fuel cell catalyst and offers a very stable chemical substrate along with good electrode activity and remarkable durability. The use of Pt3Nb—NbO2 can considerably prolong fuel cell lifetime by reducing Pt dissolution levels and subsequent voltage losses. The Pt3Nb—NbO2 can be used in the cathode and/or anode of a fuel cell.

Abstract: Flow field plate constructions for bipolar plates are disclosed for use in fuel cell stacks that are subject to freezing temperatures. In designs having internal coolant flow fields and reactant backfeed ports, relief ducts are provided in the supporting walls surrounding the backfeed ports in order to allow for ice formation and thus prevent cracking of the plates.
Abstract: A vehicle includes a battery and a vehicle support structure having multiple supports designed as hollow sections. The battery has at least one ventilation opening. The at least one ventilation opening in the battery is connected to the interior of at least one of the supports designed as hollow sections, and via same is connected, directly or via further supports designed as hollow sections, to the surroundings of the vehicle.
Abstract: A method for operating a particle filter that filters particles contained in the exhaust of motor vehicle combustion engines. A conditioning step is performed such that the separation efficiency of the particle filter for particles is increased relative to the value existing in the new condition.
Abstract: A fuel cell system includes at least one fuel cell stack designed to react reactants for current generation, a cold start detection apparatus for detecting a cold start state of a fuel cell stack and a load which may be connected to the fuel cell stack 2. A control device is designed to connect the load when the fuel cell stack 2 is in the cold start state. The supply of the reactants for the fuel cell stack is conformed to connection of the load, and the control device is designed with software and/or circuitry so as to vary the connected load in one or more step load changes in response to detection of the cold start state of the fuel cell stack.
Abstract: In a shiftable twin gear for a twin-clutch transmission and a twin-clutch transmission, to reduce the effort and costs involved in bearing-mounted idler gears, and in order to provide a simplified twin-clutch transmission a bearing sleeve which is non-rotatable with respect to a first gear body and which has a first bearing region for the bearing support of a second gear body is in the form of a separate component which is press-fitted to the first gear body.
Abstract: A diesel exhaust treatment system for treating exhaust gas from a diesel engine comprises at least one diesel particulate filter, at least one diesel exhaust fluid mixing chamber and at least one selective catalytic reduction converter (SCR). In one desirable embodiment, plural diesel particulate filters are arranged in parallel and plural SCRs are arranged in parallel. These components including the diesel exhaust fluid mixing chamber can be included in a common housing with the exhaust flow reversing directions a plurality of times as it passes through the treatment system from an exhaust inlet to an exhaust outlet. The housing can be coupled to one vehicle frame rail with most of the housing and components contained therein positioned outside the outer surface of the one frame rail.

Abstract: A proton conducting polymer electrolyte comprising a proton conducting ionomer cross-linked with an amount of a copolymer additive comprising cross-linking functional groups and other functional groups (e.g. proton carriers, chelating agents, radical scavengers) shows improved durability over the ionomer alone and provides for more stable inclusion of these other functional groups. The copolymer additive comprises at least two types of metal oxide monomers, one having cross-linking functional groups and the other having the other functional groups.
