Abstract: An aerodynamic noise measurement system for a vehicle uses sound reflectors to determine the sound wave propagation of aerodynamic noise of the vehicle. The vehicle is placed within a test section of a wind tunnel. The air flow of the wind tunnel generates the aerodynamic noise as it passes over the vehicle. An array of sound reflectors is placed outside of the air flow of the wind tunnel. Microphone arrays receive the aerodynamic noise directly from the source and from the sound reflectors. An analyzer system forms an acoustic image of the vehicle based on the aerodynamic noise. A viewing device displays an image of the vehicle with an overlay of aerodynamic noise data in real-time.

Abstract: The invention provides a structural member for a vehicle transmission formed with an annular recess in fluid communication with a fluid source and at least partially enclosing and defining an interior space of the transmission. An interior component, such as a motor/generator, is located in the interior space. The annular recess directs cooling fluid provided from the fluid source onto the interior component. The end cover includes structure defining a flow passage in fluid communication with a fluid source and also defining an annular recess in fluid communication with the flow passage. The flow passage and the annular recess are cooperatively configured for directing fluid provided from the fluid source onto an interior component in the interior space for cooling the interior component. Preferably, the interior component is an electric motor/generator that includes a stator having electric windings. The fluid is directed from the annulus onto the electric windings.

Abstract: In a method for ascertaining the position of a mobile closing element of an injector valve in a motor vehicle engine, in which the closing element is driven by a piezoelectric element for opening or closing the injection valve and a voltage signal allocated to an electrical voltage recorded on the piezoelectric element, the position of the closing element is ascertained from the ascertained voltage signal. Through a two-way valve arranged on the injection valve, a change in the voltage signal is brought about based upon a change in the electrical voltage on the piezoelectric element as a function of the position of the closing element.
Abstract: A system for coupling a trailer (2) to a motor vehicle (1), in particular a trailer (2) to a motor tractor (1), is provided with an image sensor (5), which is located in the coupling area. The coupling process involves connecting a trailer coupler (4) of the motor vehicle (1) and a tow bar (3) of the trailer (2), which is detected by an image sensor (5) detecting a movement of a locking element (8) associated with the trailer coupling (4). Thereupon a process of braking of the motor vehicle (1) is initiated.
Abstract: In an internal combustion engine for a motor vehicle, having a cylinder head and an engine block, each with a coolant inlet port and a coolant outlet port which is common to the cylinder head the engine block, a main coolant pump having an intake side connected to the coolant outlet port and a pressure side connected to a first control valve via which coolant reaches the inlet port of the cylinder head and the inlet port of the engine block depending on the temperature of the coolant, and to a method for operating such an internal combustion engine, wherein the main coolant pump is selectively actuated to pump the coolant through at least one of the cylinder head and the engine block or is shut down depending on the engine operating state.
Abstract: In a camshaft adjuster for an internal combustion engine comprising a control valve having a control piston slidably supported in a valve housing, an operating unit for adjusting the angular position of the camshaft relative to a crankshaft of the engine and a drive unit with an electric motor and a transmission structure for actuating the control piston, the transmission is non-self-locking so that backward movement of the valve piston can be achieved by a backward force on the valve piston.

Abstract: In order to make warning devices more efficient, it is known to design parameters to be variable and therewith to be adaptable depending upon the state or condition of a user of the warning information. Herein, for example, warning start points are changed or multi-stage warnings are engineered depending upon urgency. The disadvantage of such an adaptive system can however reside therein, that the mechanistic detection of the condition of the operator using various sensor systems and the subsequent output to the operator or the operator assistant system is not always acceptable, which can irritate the vehicle operator or occupants. In order to increase the acceptance by the user of the warning information it is proposed that in the lead-up to a planned change in the mode and manner of the output of the warning information, communication is initiated with at least one of the users. In the framework of this communication a user can indicate his acceptance or declining with respect to the planned change.

Abstract: Motors with high power densities and ignition pressures, for example diesel motors, require crankshafts with combined gear wheels, which can withstand high stresses, especially in their connection areas. As a consequence, forged steel crankshafts, to which tempered gear wheels are fixed by means of screws or welding, are usually employed. The aim of the invention is to provide a method comprising fewer method steps for producing a crankshaft with a combined gear wheel and to provide a crankshaft that has been produced according to said method. To achieve this, the crankshaft comprising the combined gear wheel is cast in one piece. Tempered ductile iron is used as the starting material. The strength and wear resistance is increased locally by peening, or by the application of coatings containing carbide.

Abstract: A method and a device for performing inter-vehicle distance control on a vehicle is provided, an actual value (dact) of a distance variable which describes a distance between the vehicle and a vehicle traveling in front being determined and in which a plurality of weighting values (gi) for the distance variable are determined as a function of input variables (xi) which describe the driving situation of the vehicle and/or the ambient situation of the vehicle and/or the driving behavior of the driver, the weighting values (gi) being combined in a first computing step to form a combined value (f) for the distance variable. From which combined value (f) in turn a set point value (dsetp) for the distance variable is determined, a braking device and/or driving device of the vehicle being actuated in such a way that the determined actual value (dact) of the distance variable assumes the determined set point value (dsetp).
