Abstract: A warning and information system for a motor vehicle which outputs information that is below a conscious threshold of perception of a use, and above his or her unconscious threshold. At least one signal source located in the peripheral field of vision of the user is provided, and its output signals are variable by adjusting their color, intensity, frequency, timber, and/or loudness.

Abstract: The invention relates to a computer-supported diagnostic system in which the physical structure of the technical system to be diagnosed is implemented in the form of a structural model. If a fault code occurs in a component of the technical system which is capable of self-diagnostics, and thus also in the structural model, the fault location is searched for with a parameterizable path search by means of the path search algorithm as a function of the fault which has occurred in the structural model. The parameterization of the path search succeeds here by virtue of fault-specific heuristics. A heuristic in the sense of the invention is here a software module which can be selected as a function of a fault which has occurred, which module contains a fault-specific evaluation algorithm, which contains information about the set of candidates which are to be included in the troubleshooting, and which contains rule lists with fault record conditions which are used for a fault decision by the evaluation algorithm.

Abstract: The invention relates to a front bonnet system of a motor vehicle with a front bonnet (1) and with encircling body parts (2, 3). The body parts (2, 3) have supporting points (4) which are flexible in the vertical direction and on which the front bonnet (1) is supported when closed. The flexible supporting points (4) are designed as a linearly encircling supporting strip (5) with a sealing strip (6) situated between the supporting strip (5) and the front bonnet (1). The front bonnet (1) has, on its side (7) facing the supporting strip (5), an absorption strip (8) which encircles it in a manner corresponding to the supporting strip (5) and can be brought to bear against the sealing strip (6).
Abstract: A method and apparatus for preventing roll in a vehicle utilizing a detection device which determines an actual yaw rate of the vehicle, an evaluation unit which determines a setpoint value and a threshold value for the yaw rate, and a control device for controlling vehicle units that influence the dynamics of the vehicle. The evaluation unit controls the vehicle units, by comparing the determined actual value of the yaw rate variable with the determined setpoint value; such that the actual value of the yaw rate variable assumes the determined setpoint value. If the setpoint value exceeds the threshold value, the vehicle the evaluation unit limits the determined setpoint value to the determined threshold value. According to the invention, the evaluation unit determines the threshold value of the yaw rate variable as a function of a threshold value of a roll angle variable which describes a roll angle of the vehicle.
Abstract: A motor resolver assembly includes a resolver stator and a resolver rotor positioned radially inward of and rotatable with respect to the resolver stator. First and second relatively rotatable shield components generally surround the resolver stator and rotor to shield them from electromagnetic energy from a radially outward motor rotor and motor stator. A method of measuring speed and position of the motor rotor relative to the motor stator is also employed.

Abstract: In an internal combustion engine for a motor vehicle, having a piston bearing surface divided into regions of different loading and having recesses for retaining lubricant arranged at distances which are shorter in regions of high loading than in regions of lower loading in a region with high loading, the distance between the recesses decreases from one recess to the next in the direction toward top dead center area with the smallest distance being at the top dead center position of the piston.

Abstract: In a cooling and heating device for an internal combustion engine having a main coolant pump supplying coolant to the engine and a coolant return line with a return flow control unit which directs the coolant return flow to the main coolant pump selectively via a large cooling circuit, in which an air/fluid cooler is arranged, or via a small cooling circuit bypassing the air/fluid cooler, an oil/coolant heat exchanger is provided for heating or cooling a flow of oil, the flow of coolant through the oil/coolant heat exchanger being controlled by means of a coolant flow control unit directing the flow through the oil/coolant heat exchanger only after a predefined coolant temperature has been reached so that, below this temperature, no heat is extracted from the coolant by the oil/coolant heat exchanger and rapid heating of the internal combustion engine is ensured.
Abstract: A safety device for a motor vehicle has at least one closable opening of the interior, and a closing element driven by a servo drive for closing the opening. A control unit evaluates the data relevant to safety when the vehicle is in motion and activates the servo drive at such a time that the closing element is moved into a predetermined position, in which the closable opening has an open gap prior to the occurrence of an expected accident.
Abstract: In a method for joining at least two work pieces by friction stir welding wherein the work pieces are placed placed in overlapping relationship and are at least partially plasticized in the area where they are to be joined by a rotating friction tool provided with a pin-like projection which is moved axially into the area of the joint to be formed, the projection on the rotating tool has a length corresponding about to the thickness of the upper work piece and a shoulder around the pin-like projection so that, upon movement of the tool toward the work pieces, the work piece material is plasticized by the rotating pin-like projection which moves axially into the work piece material until it reaches the surfaces of the lowermost workpiece.
Abstract: A method for wind-noise testing of an automobile in a wind tunnel is disclosed. The method includes measuring wind-noise generated by the automobile in a first condition. The first condition is the condition of the automobile with a predefined set of exterior components attached. The method further includes measuring the wind-noise generated by the automobile in a second condition. The second condition is the condition of the automobile with all exterior components removed and all individual gaps taped. The second condition is the fully quiet condition of the automobile. The method also includes measuring the wind-noise generated by the automobile after adding a single individual exterior component and/or un-taping an individual gap.
