  • Patent number: 4423407
Abstract: A gas sensing apparatus is adapted to detect the presence of a gas of interest in air in very small quantities and to provide a rapid alarm or other indication in response to the presence of such gas. The apparatus incorporates a gas sensing composition which changes its electrical resistance more dramatically than previously possible in response to the presence of the gas and electronic circuitry designed to sense and evaluate the patterns of resistance change during the first approximately 30 seconds after exposure to gas and to accurately estimate gas concentration based on such initial resistance variations. The system also looks at overall change in sensor resistance to detect gradually increasing gas levels. A preferred method of manufacturing the sensor and a sensor configuration particularly suited to the early detection of gas levels are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4417015
Abstract: Liquid antimony organic sulfur-containing compounds are rendered stable at ambient conditions by incorporating an effective amount of an ethoxylated organo phosphate ester. The stable liquid compositions contribute to the stability of vinyl halide resins.

  • Patent number: 4413515
Abstract: A support adjacent to the lower end of the pedestal for a barbecue engages under a bottom edge portion of the barbecue fuel tank such that the tank tends to tilt away from the pedestal by gravity. A gauge member connects to the top of the tank and passes through an opening in the pedestal to protrude out the opposite side. A spring provides a force opposing the tendency of the tank to tilt so that the degree of tilt is determined by the weight of the tank which in turn is determined by the amount of fuel in the tank. Thus, by observing the amount by which the gauge member protrudes through the opening in the pedestal, there is provided an indication of the fuel level in the tank.

  • Patent number: 4412630
Abstract: A device for properly aligning the sealing member of a cover relative to the sealing rim of a container. The device includes at least one alignment tab which cooperates with at least one alignment slot to align the sealing member of a cover with respect to the sealing rim of a container. Accurate alignment of the sealing member and sealing rim ensures a proper seal and prevents deformation of the container and cover due to misalignment.

  • Patent number: 4412268
Abstract: A touch plate switch is used to energize an industrial machine. The switch is closed by mere contact of the touch plate by an operator's hand. No physical movement of the plate is required. As a consequence, the risk of the operator developing carpal tunnel syndrome is substantially eliminated. By providing two such touch plate switches for operating relay switches connected in series, both switches must be simultaneously operated to start the industrial machine. By separating the switches a distance sufficient to prevent operation of both switches by one hand, the operator must use both hands and thereby a further safety feature is realized in that one of the operator's hands will not be inadvertently damaged by the machine.

  • Patent number: 4408919
Abstract: Apparatus for selectably buttering and salting an article of food such as an ear of corn or the like. A separate butter receptacle and salt receptacle are pivotably interconnected with each other so that the salt receptacle can fit into an opening of the butter receptacle, thereby urging a chunk of butter through a dispensing opening to be spread onto the corn. After the corn is buttered, the buttering and dispensing apparatus may be inverted in position to salt the corn.

  • Patent number: 4405412
Abstract: A method for removing copper contaminants from acid electroplating baths comprising adding to the bath sodium formaldehyde sulfoxylate. The presence of the sodium formaldehyde sulfoxylate overcomes overall plating haze and low current density dullness due to copper contamination in the acid tin bath.
