Abstract: A process is disclosed for the removal of colorants from industrial dye waste solutions which involves the treatment of the waste with a solution of a Group IA or IIA metal halide or sulfate to precipitate the colorant, which subsequently is removed by common solid separation techniques as a dense material of relatively high solids content. The process is particularly suitable for integration into a dyeing process to increase color fastness of the dyed article.
Abstract: A two-step process for the waste treatment of fluoroborate solutions which involves hydrolysis at an acidic pH in the presence of calcium ions toliberate fluoride and subsequent removal of fluoride values, e.g. by precipitation as calcium fluoride under alkaline conditions.

Abstract: A plurality of measuring spoons, for measuring liquid or dry materials, each having a bowl and an integral elongated handle. The bowls vary in capacity from each other. The handles of the spoons are releasably affixed to a spoon holding ring by a slot at the end of the handle. Each slot has an arcuate section so that a tubular spoon holding ring can be snapped into the slot due to flecture of the spoon handle portions defining the slot. The slots permit the spoons to be individually pivoted on the spoon holder ring, or individual spoons can be removed from the spoon holder ring. The spoons nest together to form a compact unit. The spoon holder ring is designed to permit the entire assembly to be hung up in the kitchen in a convenient location. Each spoon is clearly marked with an indication as to its bowl capacity. Several of the spoons have a measuring ledge within the bowl and these spoons can be used to measure two different capacities depending on whether the spoon is filled to the ledge or to the top.
Abstract: A fluid flow meter of the variable area flow passage type is provided wherein the variation in said flow passage area is effected by the vertical displacement of a control boundary which is supported by a substantially horizontal annular diaphragm element. Said control boundary is shaped and sized so that the overall displacement required for the flow rate range desired is within the stroke capacity delivered by the total, up and down, free flexing action of said diaphragm element, thereby achieving substantially constant differential pressure operation at a very reasonable value which is due almost entirely to gravity. The resulting unit is very compact and stable and is characterized by very smooth linear response between vertical displacement and fluid flow rate. Said vertical displacement can be measured by various means but is preferably transduced to an equally linear, smooth and steady electrical signal by a direct connection with a specially adapted differential transformer.
Abstract: Novel injection molding fiberglass reinforced thermoplastic concentrate granules are prepared by a process wherein continuous multifilament glass strands are impregnated with from 10 to 30 percent by weight of thermoplastic resin and, while the strand is maintained under controlled temperature conditions, the impregnated strand is cut to lengths of at least 1/8 of an inch.

Abstract: A vinyl halide resin stabilizer composition which essentially contains:A. an antimony organic sulfur-containing compound, for example, antimony alkyl mercaptides, antimony mercaptoacid esters and the like, andB. an ortho-dihydric phenol, such as catechol, t-butyl catechol and 2,3-dihydroxy naphthalene. These compositions synergistically contribute to the heat stability of vinyl halide resin compositions and offer significant heat stabilization economies. Early color as well as long term heat stability performances of antimony organic compounds are improved in the compositions disclosed thereby permitting the reduction in amounts of such compounds needed for stabilization. Stabilizer compositions which are liquids and shelf-stable at ambient temperatures are also disclosed.
Abstract: Containers are provided with a label and subsequently coated to seal and protect the label while enhancing the appearance and durability of the container. The coating also gives the label an appearance of depth and greatly enhances its appeal and attractiveness.
Abstract: A highly concentrated municipal waste sludge is recovered in a process which involves adding alum and a flocculating agent under alkaline conditions to a dilute waste sludge, adding calcium oxide or hydroxide and filtering the resultant mixture under pressure.
Abstract: In apparatus for polymerizing high-pressure ethylene to produce polyethylene, a tubular reactor is connected to a source of solution to the tubular reactor. This solution includes one or more catalysts which promote the polymerization reaction. Within the tubular reactor, a peak temperature occurs in proximity of the point at which the catalysts are introduced. If the catalysts are introduced at more than one point, peak temperatures will result downstream of each of such points. For various reasons, the peak temperatures are displaced along the tubular reactor and a plurality of thermocouples are distributed at spaced positions in the tubular reactor to measure the temperatures at the positions at which the peak temperature might occur. These thermocouples generate signals which are fed into a gating arrangement which selects the peak signal which is compared in a comparator circuit with an adjustable or selectable signal representative of the peak temperature which is desired.
