  • Patent number: 5695714
Abstract: Gold-palladium alloys with a high gold content for dental applications should, for reasons of biocompatibility, not contain any toxically dubious components. For particularly corrosion-resistant and biocompatible Type 4 alloys, tin is needed as the only base-metal component in amounts between 0.7 and 5.8 wt % if one remains within defined limits in a palladium-tin diagram of FIG. 1, for Pt values less than 2%. Such alloys contain, in addition to gold and tin, 6 to 25 wt % palladium, 0 to 12 wt % platinum and 0 to 2 wt % of at least one of iridium, rhodium and/or ruthenium.

  • Patent number: 5696052
Abstract: The direct handling of acrolein for the purpose of combatting microbial, vegetable and animal pests in water and soil is problematic on account of the potential for danger of acrolein. According to the invention a composition which releases acrolein upon contact with water at the site of use and is easy to handle is used. The composition in accordance with the invention contains an acrolein acetal, preferably 2-vinyl-1,3-dioxolane, and a compound hydrolyzable to an acid with a pK.sub.s value of less than 4, especially one from the series of organic acid anhydrides, organic acid halides and inorganic halogen compounds forming hydrogen halide upon hydrolysis.

  • Patent number: 5693709
Abstract: Polyoxymethylene with improved acid stability, process for production and use thereof. By adding 0.01 to 5 parts of an alkali metal salt of a polybasic acid, for example oxalic acid, citric acid and/or 0.01 to 5 parts of a polyalkylene glycol, for example polyethylene glycol and/or 0.1 to 100 parts of a thermoplastic polyurethane, each related to 100 parts of a polyoxymethylene, this polymer is stabilized against attack by acids, wherein in particular the combination of an alkali metal salt, in particular an oxalate, with small proportions of a thermoplastic polyurethane is advantageous. The proportion of thermoplastic polyurethane may be reduced when the thermoplastic polyurethane has a Shore A hardness of 70 to 96. The weight loss of a stabilized POM under the action of acid may be less than 3% of that of an unstabilized POM. The products are useful when exposed to acidic agents such as irrigation systems, dishwashers, sanitary installations.

  • Patent number: 5688973
Abstract: Process for the production of 2-vinyl-1,3-dioxolane reacting acrolein with ethylene glycol in the presence of a solid, acidic catalyst and recovery of the reaction mixture. Selectivity may be increased in comparison with known prior art processes by performing the reaction in the presence of a solid acidic catalyst at a temperature of below 50.degree. C.; the reaction mixture, from which the catalyst has been removed, is treated by extraction using an organic solvent which substantially does not dissolve ethylene glycol and has a boiling point of above 130.degree. C.; the two phases obtained on extraction are treated for recovery by distillation and recovered educts and the organic solvent are recycled.

  • Patent number: 5679860
Abstract: A process for producing 3-aminomethyl-3,5,5-trimethylcyclohexyl amine (isophorone diamine) from isophorone nitrile. Isophorone nitrile is iminated in a first stage and then the reaction mixture is subjected to aminating hydrogenation in a second stage in the presence of a fixed bed hydrogenation catalyst based on Raney cobalt. The fixed bed hydrogenation catalyst is produced in a special manner by mixing a powdery Co--containing Raney alloy with powdery cobalt, sintering the powdery mixture to shaped moldings and then activating by leaching with alkali hydroxide solution. The yield and/or space-time yield in isophorone diamine production can be increased.

  • Patent number: 5674072
Abstract: Mechanical joining of a two-phase tooth implant, consisting of two components which are joined by means of a conical pin projecting into a conical sleeve, the cone pairing being realized within the self-locking region and the cone pin being penetrated by a centrally aligned, tension screw reduced diameter which tensions the pair of cones against each other. The design permits the two implant components in a two-phase tooth implant to be steplessly positioned in the circumferential direction and to be joined in an anti-rotation, gap-free joint. The required degree of miniaturization, with a sufficient component strength, is achieved through the use of a cone combination in the self-locking region and through the use of a tension screw in the region of the cone joint. By these means, the mechanical, aesthetic and hygienic requirements for a two-phase tooth implant are better fulfilled than in the case of the known designs.

  • Patent number: 5674617
Abstract: New alkali metal cyanide granulates based on sodium cyanide or potassium cyanide and a method for their preparation are disclosed. Commercially available alkali metal cyanide granulates consist of irregular particles; disadvantages are in particular the tendencies to form dust and to cake. The disclosed alkali metal cyanide granulates demonstrate a reduced tendency to cake and virtually no abrasion. The granulates are characterized by essentially spherical particles with particle diameters in the range 0.1 to 20 mm, a bulk density of more than 600 g/dm.sup.3, an abrasion of less than 1%, and a caking index of at most 4. The granulates can be prepared by fluidized bed spray granulation involving spraying an aqueous solution containing alkali metal cyanide onto alkali metal cyanide nuclei in a fluidized bed and evaporating the water.

  • Patent number: 5672745
Abstract: The direct saponification of methionine nitrile obtained from methylmercaptopropionaldehyde, prussic acid and ammonia gives low yields, catalyst and educt losses and unwanted side-products. The aim of the invention is therefore to provide a method which can be carried out without isolating the intermediate products, in particular continuously, and with low losses. The ketone used is recovered in high yields after amide saponification since this liberates the ketone from side-products. In order to recover the ammonia, it is necessary for the ammonia to be substantially freed of ketone, the mixture of ammonia, ketone and water obtained being separated under pressure in a separation column. When the amide is saponified at .gtoreq.160.degree. C., amide concentrations of less than 25% by wt. are preferred. Methionine nitrile is produced by treatment with at least 4 equivalents of .gtoreq.50% by wt. ammonia at between 40.degree. and 80.degree. C./or between 5 and 60 min.

  • Patent number: 5670332
Abstract: A water-supported enzymatic reaction is carried out with the substrate and the enzyme present in the solid phase. Either the water does not form a liquid continuum around substrate and enzyme, or the water acts at least partially out of the gas phase, or the water required for the reaction is added via a solid, or at least a part of the water required for the reaction is transferred by means of solid body contacts or by a combination of these means. The reaction mixture can be mixed by ultrasound or turbulence, e.g. in a fluidized bed, or both.
