A motor is included having an armature which rotates about an axis The motor also has a stator which circumferentially surrounds the armature such that a fluid passage is defined radially between the armature and stator through which the fluid flows from the inlet to the outlet. A pumping arrangement is rotated by the armature and pumps the fluid from the inlet to the outlet A flow impedance member extends axially in the fluid passage which impedes circumferential flow of the fluid within the fluid passage, thereby generating a pressure gradient circumferentially within the fluid passage which applies a lateral force to the armature.

The plunger is arranged for reciprocating linear movement along the pumping axis within a second chamber of the housing upon rotation of the cam. At least the housing is adapted to be substantially filled with oil in use and the guide includes at least one flow passage communicating between the first chamber and the second chamber.

    Abstract: A fuel injector for use in delivering fuel to an internal combustion engine includes a nozzle having a valve needle which is moveable with respect to a valve needle seating through a range of movement between a fully-closed position and a fully-open position to control fuel delivery through at least one nozzle outlet, whereby movement of the nozzle needle is controlled by fuel pressure within a control chamber. A nozzle control valve controls fuel flow into and out of the control chamber to pressurize and depressurize the control chamber, respectively. The fuel injector also includes a variable flow passage in communication with the control chamber through which fuel flows out of the control chamber at a variable rate throughout the range of movement of the valve needle so that movement of the valve needle is damped to a greater extent as it approaches the fully-open position.

    Abstract: A diagnostic method for a particulate filter in an exhaust line of an internal combustion engine is presented. The exhaust gas stream downstream of the particulate filter is monitored by a downstream soot sensor having a characteristic sensor cycle; and the accumulation of soot at an upstream soot sensor is monitored over a respective sensor cycle of the downstream soot sensor. The particulate filter operating status is decided on the basis of the information of the downstream and upstream soot sensors. The amount of accumulated soot is determined based on the sensor cycles of the upstream soot sensor, and may be expressed as a soot loading level or as a number of sensor cycles. The efficiency of the particulate filter may be determined from the respective number of sensor cycles of the soot sensors.
