Patent number: 6482047Abstract: An electrical connector has a terminal position assurance and lock device that acts as both a stop behind receptacle portions of electrical terminals and to prevent flexing of a first and second set of cavity flex lock arms which retain the electrical terminals in the connector to positively position the electrical terminals and prevent their inadvertent withdrawal from the electrical connector. Insertion of an electrical terminal into a terminal cavity causes the cavity flex lock arm in the cavity to flex inwardly, permitting the electrical terminal to be received in the cavity. Once an electrical terminal is inserted past the cavity flex lock arm, the lock arm returns to its unflexed position to retain the electrical terminal.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 2001Date of Patent: November 19, 2002Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Joseph Donald Lytle, Jr., Donald John Mizner

Patent number: 6481452Abstract: The invention is a two-stage, two-poppet prime valve assembly for use in high pressure applications such as vehicle braking systems. The valve assembly has two valve seats and two plungers for allowing the valve assembly to open under high pressure while providing minimal internal flow restrictions to enhance cold temperature and low pressure operation. The two-stage, two poppet valve assembly contains two separate flow paths, one being high pressure, relatively low flow called a stage one, and the other being relatively low pressure, high flow called a stage two. In addition, the valve incorporates a reverse flow bypass feature that is capable of controlling flow at very high pressure and allowing reverse flow with a very low pressure drop.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 2000Date of Patent: November 19, 2002Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: David Fredrick Reuter, E. Patent number: 6481273Abstract: An improved method of assessing the frequency response of an in vehicle exhaust gas air/fuel ratio sensor by measuring and analyzing the sensor response to a predetermined perturbation of the fuel delivered to the engine. In a first test mode that provides both quantitative and qualitative assessments, the perturbation is achieved by applying fixed biases to the fuel pulse widths of individual engine cylinders to create a rich/lean perturbation in the exhaust gas, and by adjusting the engine throttle to gradually vary the engine speed over a test interval so that the rich/lean perturbation correspondingly varies in frequency. Since the biases are fixed, intake port wall-wetting effects are minimized. In a second test mode that provides a qualitative assessment, the perturbation is achieved by applying an alternating fuel bias multiplier to every engine cylinder, with the engine operating at a fixed speed and load setting that is of interest for diagnostic purposes.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 2001Date of Patent: November 19, 2002Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Peter James Maloney

Publication number: 20020168269Abstract: Any hydraulic flow return system of a transmission pump in which primary and bypass flows of hydraulic fluid are returned to primary and bypass flow channels, respectively, of a booster nozzle situated adjacent the rotating group at the inlet of the pump for delivery a boosted flow of high pressure fluid to the pump is a result of the incoming bypass flow being passed through a flow restrictor before being recombined with the primary flow, the system is improved by incorporating a bypass valve which senses the back pressure in the incoming bypass flow and operates to open an auxiliary bypass channel in the event that the back pressure exceeds a predetermined control value in order to divert a fraction of the bypass flow around the flow restrictor for delivery to the pump until such time as the back pressure falls below the control value.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 19, 2002Publication date: November 14, 2002Applicant: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Roy William Heath, Douglas D. Publication number: 20020166713Abstract: A damper for a vehicle rack and pinion-type power steering system reduces or eliminates high frequency and low amplitude vibrations commonly associated with high-speed steering wheel shake. The damper includes a hydraulically actuated clutch that is energized by a spring in the damper. The damper locks or inhibits rotation of a steering shaft coupled to the rack and pinion assembly while the vehicle is traveling straight down the road to absorb the input energy and cancel any vibration from the wheels, suspension or road. The clutch is released when there is any steering wheel input from the operator. Increased pressure from the power steering pump as a result of steering wheel input increases the pressure in the damper to compress a spring and release the multi-disk clutch. This allows the steering system to behave in an acceptable manner by not adding any friction or extra force requirements to the driver and providing acceptable feel and return to center characteristics for the steering system.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 8, 2001Publication date: November 14, 2002Applicant: Delphi Technologies, IncInventors: Ronald G. Publication number: 20020166443Abstract: A power booster for a brake system including a housing having an interior and a diaphragm separating the interior of the housing into at least two chambers. A power piston is coupled for movement with the diaphragm and includes an output member. A reaction member is coupled to the power piston, and an input member is adapted to be coupled to a movable brake pedal. An air valve assembly moves between open and closed positions to selectively admit atmospheric air into at least one of the chambers. This induces an output force on the diaphragm that is transferred to the output member of the power piston. The air valve assembly includes a portion adapted to engage the reaction member in response to an input force applied to the input member and is length adjustable between the input member and the reaction member.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 9, 2001Publication date: November 14, 2002Applicant: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Timothy A. Patent number: 6479766Abstract: An improved occupant weight detection system measures the pressure in a fluid-filled bladder disposed in or under a foam seat cushion as an indication of occupant weight, and periodically adjusts the pressure vs. occupant weight relationship to compensate for changes due to aging and usage of the foam seat cushion. The system controller develops an aging adjustment value based on a measure of the cumulative aging and usage of the seat, and uses the developed adjustment value to compensate the operation of the system. The aging adjustment value is determined primarily as a function of occupant weight and time of seat occupancy, and the compensation is achieved by using the aging adjustment value to adjust either the estimated weight, or a threshold to which the measured pressure is compared for purposes of deciding if restraint deployment should be enabled.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 2001Date of Patent: November 12, 2002Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Charles A. Patent number: 6478549Abstract: This invention offers advantages and alternatives over the prior art by providing a dual port hydraulic fixed displacement pump which exhibits improved efficiency by limiting the volume of discharged fluid which is subjected to the line pressure of a hydraulic system through mechanical valve control. According to the present invention, a pair of discharge ports are provided, namely a first discharge port and a second discharge port. Under all operating conditions, e.g., low and high pump speed operating conditions, the fluid flowing within the first discharge port and primary discharge passageway is exposed to the working pressure of the primary line, which represents a high pressure line. The second discharge port fluidly communicates with a secondary discharge passageway which is in selective fluid communication with a low pressure line connected to a low pressure area of the pump (e.g.Type: GrantFiled: January 21, 2000Date of Patent: November 12, 2002Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: David R.
