  • Patent number: 7830983
Abstract: The present invention provides a method to minimize degradation in a D-MPSK hierarchical modulation system by adding additional data throughput (i.e., secondary information) as an offset to the primary signal transmitted by a SDARS terrestrial repeater. The present invention provides techniques for adding the additional throughput as Level 2 data by transmitting offset phase and/or amplitude information across adjacent OFDM symbols and/or adjacent frequency subcarriers.

  • Patent number: 7822149
Abstract: Additional data may be added to the current SDARS satellite signals as a phase and/or amplitude offset from the legacy quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) modulated data and transmitted by the SDAR terrestrial repeaters. However, in the case where a legacy receiver architecture for a differential modulation system outputs angular/phase differences between carriers, the phase and/or amplitude information appears as distortion to the legacy receiver. The present invention provides a method for optimizing the SDARS infrastructure more efficiently by allowing independent adjustment of the phase and/or amplitude offset (610) at each terrestrial site. The present invention provides a method for adjusting the performance of each signal together or separately as needed.

  • Publication number: 20100265989
Abstract: A thermopile-based thermal detector is provided by a thermocouple, formed from a single sheet of material, which is made dissimilar with a P-doped and an N-doped junction electrically isolated via a naturally forming depletion region. The thermopile P-N sheet is uniform and planar, addressing stress and manufacturing issues. The usual non-active area of a conventional thermopile is significantly reduced or eliminated, and thus the output signal per unit diaphragm area of the detector is substantially increased, without the typical reduction in the signal-to-noise ratio. Also, a significant reduction in size of the thermal detector area is provided without a reduction in signal or signal-to-noise ratio. In an aspect, a second layer of thermocouples is axially positioned over, and connected with, a first layer of thermocouples. Additional axially stacked thermopiles can be provided within the same fabrication process. Signal processing circuitry may be electrically interconnected with the thermocouple.

  • Publication number: 20100265735
Abstract: A display assembly includes a light pipe that has a front face adapted for emitting light to illuminate a display. The light pipe defines a compartment for receiving a light source. A light shield is disposed overlying the compartment. Channel segments are formed in the rear face and are symmetrical about the compartment. Light from the light source is extracted through the front face to create glow regions about the light shield, over the channel segments, and adjacent the edges of the light pipe. This results in symmetrically uniform illumination of the display while utilizing a single central light source.

  • Patent number: 7814757
Abstract: A method of operating a directed relief valve to ventilate a refrigerant by sensing the concentration of refrigerant leakage from the air conditioning system, and if the first concentration exceeds a threshold, by sensing a second concentration. If the first and second concentrations exceed a predetermined concentration, the system will send a leak message to the operator and/or ventilate the refrigerant to the surrounding atmosphere. The system continuously monitors the refrigerant leakage concentration when the vehicle engine is operative, but only periodically monitors the refrigerant leakage concentration when the vehicle engine is inoperative.

  • Publication number: 20100258656
Abstract: A fuel injector for an internal combustion engine, the fuel injector being of a type with an open-ended nozzle body adjoining an injector body. The interface between the nozzle body and the injector body is flat, to simplify manufacture, and they are aligned relative to each other using a compression element which is typically a sleeve that extends around them. The compression element also acts to apply a pre-compression to at least one of the bodies to enable the fuel injector to operate at higher fuel pressures than would otherwise be possible.

  • Publication number: 20100252125
Abstract: A fill limiter vent valve (FLVV) adapted for suspension downward into a fuel tank has upper and lower housing members having openings in their cylindrical walls cooperating to define a spill-over level for fuel into the FLVV producing float-initiated vent valve closure during a fuel fill event. The lower housing member has a latching member fixedly engageable with one or more cooperating latching features of the upper housing member in a plurality of relative axial positions; and the spill-over level is varied by relative axial movement of the housing members between those positions.
