  • Publication number: 20090229399
Abstract: A steering column assembly includes a mounting bracket and a column jacket moveable relative to the mounting bracket. The mounting bracket defines a rake slot having rake slot teeth and a telescope slot having telescope slot teeth. A shaft extends through the rake slot and the telescope slot transverse to a longitudinal axis of the column jacket. A rake lock having rake lock teeth is disposed within the rake slot and a telescope lock having telescope lock teeth is disposed within the telescope slot. The shaft extends through and rotatably supports the rake lock and the telescope lock. The rake lock and the telescope lock rotate as the rake lock and the telescope lock move into interlocking toothed engagement with the slot teeth to avoid peak-to-peak contact between the lock teeth and the slot teeth, thereby permitting full meshing engagement between the lock teeth and the slot teeth.

  • Publication number: 20090229805
Abstract: A heat exchanger assembly having an inlet header, an outlet header spaced apart from and substantially parallel the inlet header, and a plurality of refrigerant tubes each extending between and in hydraulic communication with the inlet header and outlet header. Contained within the outlet header is a refrigerant collector conduit adapted to provide a predetermined pressure drop (?P) and having a cross-section area Acollector. The refrigerant collector includes a plurality of orifices having a cumulative orifice area (nAorifice) that are substantially equally spaced along the refrigerant collector. The collector conduit is in fluid communication with the outlet header for transferring the vapor phase of a two refrigerant. The collector conduit cross sectional area (Acollector) and cumulative orifice area (nAorifice) is described by the following equation: ? ? ? p = m dot 2 ? ? [ 467.892 ? ( 1 A collector 2 - 1 n 2 ? A orifice 2 ) + 51.

  • Patent number: 7589487
Abstract: A system and method is provided for improved monitoring and controlling of mechanically commutated DC motors. The system and method include DC motors, pulse-count driver circuitry for driving the motors, motor position sensing circuitry, and motor control circuitry. The system and method provide for improved motor current waveform sensing that is able to effectively reject false brake pulses, avoid erroneous processing due to fluctuating battery voltage levels, and reduce the sensitivity to variations in motor current signals due to dynamic motor load, manufacturing variation, system aging, temperature, brush bounce, EMI, and other factors. The system and method also include an improved ability to multiplex additional external motor drivers to the motor control circuitry, select between sequential and simultaneous drive modes using an SPI bit, and monitor the system controller for an error condition and simultaneously driver motors in response to the error condition.

  • Patent number: 7590399
Abstract: A technique for reducing multipath distortion in an FM receiver, with a plurality of switchable antennas, provides a fast distortion detector that monitors a received signal for significant distortion events of less than about 15 microseconds in duration. In response to a multipath event, the output of the fast distortion detector initiates a search for a lower distortion (better quality) antenna. To prevent frequent antenna searches from causing an audible disturbance, a threshold is introduced to desensitize the fast distortion detector. Threshold decay is a function of an overall received RF signal level. A slow distortion detector is also provided that measures distortions of the received signal relating to signal quality.

  • Patent number: 7589280
Abstract: A connector assembly for a planar sensing element of an exhaust gas sensor is shown, with a method for assembling. There is an opposed pair of ceramic clamshells which retain terminals, each terminal mates to corresponding contact pads of the planar sensing element. A spacer is positioned between clamshells and a seal. A retainer clip binds the ceramic clamshells. These components are contained within an upper shield, upon assembly. The spacer creates a hinge point between the clamshell devices, allowing insertion of the sensing element without abrasion or scraping of the contact pads against the terminals The retainer clip, with radially extending tabs, keeps the opposed pair of ceramic clamshells under compression upon the sensing element when assembled, due to an interference fit with the upper shield of the sensor.

  • Patent number: 7590476
Abstract: A method of diagnosing a vehicle fault includes receiving information on a vehicle from a customer regarding an actual vehicle fault and accessing data regarding the actual vehicle fault from the vehicle. A diagnostic program is initiated based on identifying vehicle information, the information received from the customer, and the data accessed from the vehicle. A specific vehicle system is selected for diagnosis and includes a particular vehicle component that may be associated with the actual vehicle fault. A list of diagnostic program results is received that defines multiple probable vehicle component faults for the specific vehicle system that may be associated with the actual vehicle fault. A determination on how to proceed with correcting the actual vehicle fault is made based on the list of diagnostic program results that define multiple probable vehicle component faults. A probable vehicle component fault is selected to evaluate whether it is the source of the actual vehicle fault.

  • Patent number: 7588849
Abstract: In a solid-oxide fuel cell system, a fuel/air manifold conveys air and tail gas fuel from the anodes in a fuel cell stack assembly to a tail gas combustor, producing a heated combustor exhaust having the highest mass flow in the system. The exhaust is passed through a heat exchanger to warm incoming cathode reaction air, and the exhaust is partially cooled by the exchange. From the heat exchanger, the exhaust gas is passed through a tempering jacket space surrounding the fuel cells in the stack. During start-up of the system, the exhaust gas is hotter than the stack and so the warm-up period is shortened. During normal operation of the system, the exhaust gas is cooler than the operating temperature and therefore cooling of the stack is assisted by contact with the exhaust gas.

  • Patent number: 7584746
Abstract: A fuel rail assembly of an internal combustion engine includes an axially extending non-round fuel conduit and at least one axially extending stiffening feature integral with said conduit. Integration of the stiffening features in the conduit enables reduction or elimination of the objectionable frequency noise radiated by the fuel rail assembly. By aligning the stiffening features axially relative to the conduit, panels having a relatively small surface area are formed and, thus, the noise radiating surface area is significantly reduced. The axial orientation of the added stiffening features allows the length of the stiffening features to be relatively large, which increases the stiffening effects to provide increased resistance to flexing, thus, reducing the noise radiated by the fuel system of the internal combustion engine.

  • Publication number: 20090218800
Abstract: A steering column assembly for a motor vehicle is adjustable in both rake and telescope directions and then locked in a convenient setting by a driver. The locking mechanism for the telescope and rake adjust is motor actuated in response to activation of a toggle switch. The motor can be proximate or remote from the locking mechanism and the steering column assembly. A transmission operates on a rotating cam principal which alternately cycles a clamp of the locking mechanism between locked and unlocked conditions. A drive shaft extends between the motor and the locking mechanism and can be either rigid or flexible. Locking the steering column assembly in an adjusted position can be accomplished either by compressing a capsule bracket against a compression bracket, or via interlocking engagement of pawls with corresponding teeth in respective slots in the capsule and compression brackets.
