  • Patent number: 11877163
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of operating a Radio Access Network (RAN) including a Radio Unit (RU), a first Distributed Unit (DU), a second DU that functions as a dynamic standby DU, and a network management device. After the RU transmits data to the first DU using a configuration parameter set to an address of the first DU, the RU detects an outage of the first DU. In response to detecting the outage, the RU transmits to the network management device a message indicating detection of the outage. In response, the network management device configures the second DU to perform the functions of the first DU, and causes the second DU to request the RU to set the configuration parameter to an address of the second DU. The RU then uses the configuration parameter set to the address of the second DU to transmit data to the second DU.

  • Patent number: 11864256
Abstract: Techniques are described for end-to-end overwatch of communication sessions in a network for fast failure recovery. At any time, network functions (NFs) can be supporting end-to-end connectivity for large numbers of concurrent active communication sessions. Conventionally, if one or more of the NFs fail, session context information can be irretrievably lost, and session connectivity is lost. Embodiments provide an overwatch system in an overwatch plane of the network to determine critical session context dataset (CSCDs) for NFs participating in active communication sessions, and to continuously take snapshots of the entire end-to-end context of active communication sessions in accordance with the CSCDs and endpoint information for the NFs.

  • Publication number: 20230403748
Abstract: Spectrum and radio resources associated with a 5G radio unit (RU) of a host network are dynamically allocated amongst one or more guest networks. A provisioning plane receives inputs from a guest network operator that identifies desired times, locations and/or frequency bands for desired network coverage. The provisioning plane responsively identifies bandwidth allocations that meet the requested parameters for exclusive use by the guest network. User equipment (UE) associated with each guest network maintains time and frequency synchronization with the host network, but otherwise limits its communications to the frequency bands allocated to the guest network. By dynamically obtaining physical radio and spectrum resources from a host provider and by scaling backend network capabilities using cloud resources, guest networks for any number of different purposes can be quickly deployed or modified as desired.

  • Patent number: 11838845
Abstract: Techniques described herein provide pooling of radio access network (RAN) resources in a disaggregated RAN in a manner that enables dynamic re-homing of RAN functions with minimal disruption to stateful communications. The RAN is a hierarchical arrangement of RAN units, each having an associated state at any given time. A RAN state pooling system (RSPS) is in communication with a pool of the RAN units via a high-speed communication channel. The RSPS is configured to maintain an updated repository of the state information for the RAN units in its serviced pool. In the event of re-homing from a first RAN unit to a second RAN unit in the pool (e.g., due to the first RAN unit failing, becoming overloaded, etc.), the RSPS provides the second RAN unit with the updated state information for the first RAN unit to facilitate a stateful re-homing.
