Patent number: 6003814Abstract: Disclosed is a duct assembly for conducting compressed air from a fixed component to a component that is movable with respect to the fixed component. The duct assembly contains at least two telescoping, tubular conduit sections with seals between adjacent sections. An upstream transitional joint rotatably interconnects the outermost conduit section with an air supply duct, while a downstream transitional joint rotatably interconnects the innermost conduit section with an air delivery duct. A tubular double-wall spaced apart from the inner surface of the innermost conduit section forms an annular airspace between the tubular double-wall and the innermost conduit section. A second double-wall forms a second annular airspace between its downstream end and the upstream transitional joint. The annular airspaces created by the double-walls protect the seals.Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 1996Date of Patent: December 21, 1999Assignee: Seniors Flexonics Inc. Patent number: 5989358Abstract: A sheet cleaning apparatus having sets of cleaning rollers, wherein the rollers are integrated into a removable cartridge structure. Couplers are provided at roller shaft ends to connect to the roller drive. The cartridge is received in a slide carriage, permitting the cartridge to be readily removed from the apparatus by sliding the carriage out, and lifting the cartridge out from the slide carriage. With this arrangement, the down time for the sheet cleaning apparatus is minimized, since the sheet cleaning apparatus can be provided with two cartridges, and the cartridge needing maintenance can simply be quickly removed and replaced with a fresh cartridge. The production line can quickly be put back into operation, and the removed cartridge can be serviced off line for subsequent use.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 1998Date of Patent: November 23, 1999Assignee: Systems Division, IncorporatedInventor: John A. Patent number: 5987857Abstract: Packing apparatus on a conveyor line for use in filling cartons with compressible articles comprises first and second tamping pistons (4,6) operating in sequence in a chamber (2) to successively compress the articles and drive them through a chute (2a) into a carton (C). A planar shutter (32) is provided at the bottom of the chute (2a) to close it between carton-filling operations. The chute and carton are separated by only the shutter so as to minimize the gap between them and also to facilitate the extension of the driving piston (6) into the container to pack the articles more firmly therein. The shutter rotates on a vertical axis offset from the chute with its lower face contacting the cartons and moves generally in the direction of advance of the carton along the conveyor line.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 1997Date of Patent: November 23, 1999Assignee: Lipton, Division of Conopco, Inc.Inventors: Philip Gordon Haddow, Graham Leonard Shirley

Patent number: 5983590Abstract: The earthquake resistant equipment rack of the present invention includes a base having integrally formed upstanding walls on each end to provide structural rigidity to the connection of the base and a plurality of vertical upright members. The upstanding walls increase the rigidity of the base in conjunction with the vertical members, and also work in conjunction with gussets to further increase the rigidity and stiffness at the base. The gussets are comprised of a vertical wall which is notched on one end to be coupled to a front wall or channel in the base. The gussets also include a top wall and back wall which are directly coupled to the vertical upright members positioned in association with the base. A channel top is coupled between the uppermost portions of the vertical upright members providing the rack with a rectangular frame structure.Type: GrantFiled: May 29, 1997Date of Patent: November 16, 1999Assignee: The Crown DivisionInventor: Vasile Serban

Patent number: 5981464Abstract: The present invention relates to novel chip compositions containing specific polyol ester as the major carrier for liquid skin benefit agents. Addition of specific polyol esters wherein the melting temperature and HLB are specifically defined has been found to remarkably enhance the oil/humectant structuring capability of a skin cleansing bar. Such a polyol ester also permits the liquid benefit agents to be released into a personal wash liquor and then to be delivered to skin via personal wash. In a second embodiment, the invention relates to a method for enhancing the bar's capability of including high levels of oil and/or humectant by applying the adjuvant technology. That is, by coextruding and stamping the mixture of chips containing skin benefit agents and base chips containing a surfactant system, high levels of oils and/or humectants can be incorporated into solid toilet bars by standard extrusion technology.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 1998Date of Patent: November 9, 1999Assignee: Lever Brothers Company, Division of Conopco, Inc.Inventors: Mengtao He, Gregory McFann, Terence Farrell

Patent number: 5973999Abstract: An acoustic cannon has a plurality of acoustic sources with output ends symmetrically arranged in a planar array about a central point. Pressure pulses are generated in each acoustic source at substantially the same time. The pressure pulses exit the output ends as sonic pulses. Interaction of the sonic pulses generates a Mach disk, a non-linear shock wave that travels along an axis perpendicular to the planar array with limited radial diffusion. The Mach disk retains the intensity of the sonic pulses for a time and a distance significantly longer than that achievable from a single sonic source. The acoustic cannon is useful as a non-lethal weapon to disperse crowds or disable a hostile target.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1997Date of Patent: October 26, 1999Assignee: Maxwell Technologies Systems Division, Inc.Inventors: John T.
