  • Patent number: 5841521
Abstract: An apparatus for making a lithographic printing plate according to the silver salt diffusion transfer process image-wise exposes an imaging element with a high intensity short time scanning exposure. The imaging element comprises on a support in the order given a silver halide emulsion layer and a layer containing physical development nuclei. A thus obtained image-wise exposed imaging element is subsequently developed in the presence of a developing agent and silver halide solvent. The image-wise exposure is focused substantially within the silver halide emulsion layer of the imaging element.

  • Patent number: 5837663
Abstract: A solid detergent composition useful for machine dishwashing is described. The product contains a first layer having a buffering system, a builder and an enzyme. The first layer dissolves to deliver a pH of about 9.0 to about 11 in the wash water. A second layer includes a peracid and an acidity agent in a continuous medium having a melting point in the range of from about 35.degree. C. to about 50.degree. C. The material may be a paraffin wax, a natural wax, a polyvinyl ether, fatty acids and mixtures thereof. The second layer dissolves in wash water to deliver a pH of from about 6.5 to about 9. The release order of the functional ingredients allows for a optimum bleaching of stains as well as removal of soil.

  • Patent number: 5837480
Abstract: This invention relates to InhA enzyme crystals and to methods of growing said crystals. This invention is further directed to the utilization of said crystals to determine the three dimensional structure of InhA enzyme utilizing heavy atom derivatives of said crystals, and to the identification and development of compounds which inhibit the biochemical activity of InhA enzyme in bacteria and plants.

  • Patent number: 5838836
Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing a rough crop of a mounted image off-line prior to scanning. The apparatus comprises a kit having cards with apertures of various defined sizes and slide holders corresponding to standard original (film) sizes to be used. Each aperture card is labeled for identification, and each slide holder is marked with labeled lines at discrete intervals parallel to the card edges, following a Cartesian orientation. An original to be scanned is mounted in a slide holder corresponding to its size, and an aperture card selected for the desired cropping aperture, from the set included in the kit, and placed on top of the slide holder card with the outside edges of both cards aligned. An offset of the crop aperture from the center of the image is accomplished by shifting the crop card until one or more of the parallel lines on the slide holder come into view.

  • Patent number: 5833043
Abstract: A portable radial stacker having improved stability during radial travel and operation and improved highway transport characteristics is disclosed. Existing material handling conveyor components may be retrofitted to embody the invention. The invention enables operators to transport portable radial stackers over public highways in most states without the requirement of using an escort because the maximum overall width in the transport configuration is 11 feet--6 inches. In addition, the width extends to more than 22 feet when configured for stacking operation and radial travel which provides greater stability than previous conveyors. Hydraulic fold-down outriggers convert the system between the transport configuration and the stacking configuration in only a few minutes which affords a great savings in time and labor. Transport wheels are equipped with air brakes and the radial travel wheels can be fitted with hydraulically actuated direct drive.

  • Patent number: 5835686
Abstract: A method and apparatus for an electronic prepress system includes a computer workstation for preparing electronic image files. The computer workstation transfers the image files to an image processor that converts the image files into digital data. The digital data is then transferred to a virtual-drum capstan-driven output device for outputting the image files onto paper, film or plate material. The output device has increased output speed and reduced cost compared to an internal drum device. A capstan drive moves web type image recording media through a curved media platen having an upper curved surface and a lower curved surface which form the media into a virtual drum. The optical system has a rotating reflective spinner at the center of curvature of the virtual drum to scan modulated image date across media while being continuously driven.

  • Patent number: 5833006
Abstract: The glass pane of an emergency equipment access panel is replaced by tempered glass as opposed to conventional annealed glass panels of the type available in the prior art. Tempering places the surfaces of the glass in a higher degree of compression while balancing tensile forces are confined to the interior. Because of the high degree of permanent stress induced in the glass by tempering, if any portion of the tempered glass is weakened, such as by cracking even an edge thereof, the entire structure virtually disintegrates into a large plurality of small, relatively harmless pieces, leaving no significant size shards of glass that might otherwise injure one's hand or arm reaching through the shattered glass to gain access to the interior of a cabinet for example. An edge breaking device provides a simple and convenient means for exploiting the high stresses built into tempered glass and produces the virtual disintegration of the glass panel even though only an edge portion thereof has been fractured.

  • Patent number: 5829242
Abstract: The modulus of stretch af a fibrous rope is reduced by impregnating a pluity of spaced-apart segments of the rope with an epoxy plastic thereby to reduce the modulus of stretch of the segment equal to zero after curing the plastic. The overall modulus of stretch of a re-manufactured rope taken as a whole is proportional to the ratio of the length of an impregnated segment relative to a unit length of the rope.
