Abstract: A physically intermixed catalyst system comprising two distinctly different catalytic particles, the first of which is a hydrodenitrification and/or hydrodesulfurization catalyst and the second of which is a relatively active hydrocracking catalyst, wherein the catalyst particles of both catalytic components are substantially the same size, that is the effective diameter of each catalyst component is substantially the same. The catalyst system of the present invention can be layered with unmixed catalysts. The novel systems of the present invention have been found to provide surprisingly good selectivity for liquid products and stability against catalyst fouling when used in combined hydrotreating and hydrocracking applications, and can therefore be used to provide a stable catalyst system which offers even heat distribution and reactor control in such applications.

Abstract: Novel antiperspirant actives are amphiphilic materials which form, upon contact with perspiration, a water-insoluble liquid crystal phase of greater than one-dimensional periodicity, e.g. a cubic (three-dimensional periodicity) or hexagonal (two-dimensional periodicity) liquid crystal structure. Examples of such actives include lipids, surfactants, emulsifiers, polymer amphiphilic complexes and block copolymer surfactants which form the required liquid crystal phase upon contact with sweat. Preferably, antiperspirant compositions comprising the novel active(s) are free of conventional antiperspirant actives, especially aluminum and/or zirconium salts.

Abstract: The present invention is concerned with a plastic dispersion containing from 5-65 wt. % of a continuous fat phase and from 95-35 wt. % of a gelling polysaccharide containing dispersed aqueous phase, wherein the gelling polysaccharide is selected from the group consisting of agar, pectin and mixtures thereof and present in a concentration exceeding the critical concentration and which aqueous phase contains further 0.004 to 10.0 wt. % of protein. We have found that the present dispersion displays essentially the same in-mouth break down behaviour as a gelatin based dispersion.

Abstract: Recombinant protein C characterized by a high percentage of active protein can be obtained in the milk of transgenic mammals that incorporate DNAs according to the present invention. Transgenic mammals of the present invention are produced by introducing into developing embryos DNA that encodes protein C, such that the DNA is stably incorporated in the DNA of germ line cells of the mature mammals and inherited in normal, mendelian fashion.

Abstract: The present invention related to a process for improving the corrosion resistance and processability of stainless steel powder composition. The process comprises prealloying the stainless steel powder with about 1% to about 3% by weight of tin and blending the prealloyed stainless steel powder before molding with from about 0.5% to about 1.5% of an additive in particulate form consisting essentially of by weight 2 to 30% of tin and the balance consisting essentially of at least one element selected from copper and nickel.

Abstract: A scanning apparatus providing separate fixed object focal planes for transmissive and reflective original documents to be scanned, wherein a scan carriage containing illumination, sensor, and optical elements is moved together to scan an original document and to obtain a digitized representation thereof. The movable scan carriage has an illumination source disposed between the reflective and transmissive object focal planes, with the object focal plane to be used selected by changing the position of one or more optical elements within the scan carriage. The scan carriage is suspended along an axis substantially parallel to a scan line of a scanned original document and passing through a point substantially coincident with the scan line, thereby minimizing variations in lighting conditions due to vibration of the scan carriage.

Abstract: A non-rotating optical shield is generally cylindrical in shape and surrounds a rotating optical deflector to reduce airflow and optical distortion, as well as acoustic noise. A beam entrance aperture is provided in an end of the shield allowing an input beam to project onto the rotating deflector along the deflector's spin axis. The entrance aperture is sealed by a window to prevent air from being drawn into the shield by the action of the rotating optical deflector. The deflected beam exits the shield through a beam exit aperture in the side of the shield which is enclosed by an optical element. Clearances between the shield and the rotating deflector are minimal. The shield reduces temperature gradients in the surrounding air thus reducing optical distortions caused by changes in refractive indices of the deflector and surrounding air.

Abstract: A sealed, closed end heat pipe efficiently warms the drain for an evaporator so that condensation may flow unobstructed away from the evaporator in the refrigeration circuit. An evaporator end of the heat pipe is exposed to ambient air and a condenser end is located close to the drain inlet adjacent the evaporator. Thus, no external power source is required as fluid within the evaporator end is heated to vapor phase and circulates toward the condenser end, and cooled fluid from the condenser end returns to the evaporator end.
