  • Patent number: 5582333
Abstract: A nail polish remover product is provided formed of a liquid nail polish remover composition and a dispenser for storing and delivering the composition. A volatile solvent such as acetone or ethyl acetate usually forms a significant portion of the composition. The dispenser will include a bottle and a cap. The bottle will have a mouth at an open end thereof which is provided with a coupling mechanism such as a male screw thread to lock the cap. The cap has a deck to cover the bottle mouth, a female screw thread to lockingly engage the thread around the mouth, a skirt surrounding the deck and a lid hingedly attached to the skirt. The deck is concave shaped with an aperture centered therein allowing dispensing of the composition from the bottle when the lid is in an open position but preventing dispensing when the lid is in a closed position.

  • Patent number: 5583098
Abstract: A particulate detergent composition having a bulk density of at least 650 g/l which is not the product of a spray-drying process consists of a substantially homogeneous granular base and optional postdosed ingredients. The composition comprises a surfactant system, alkali metal aluminosilicate builder, and a water-soluble salt of citric acid, preferably sodium citrate, and optionally other ingredients. The delivery and dissolution characteristics of the composition in the wash are improved if citrate of Rosin Rammler particle size less than 800 .mu.m is incorporated within the granular base. The composition may also contain postdosed citrate of unrestricted particle size.

  • Patent number: 5582671
Abstract: A consumable fusion block for fusing optical fibers includes non-conducting substrate with at least one flat surface. A pair of electrodes overlay the flat surface of the substrate and are spaced apart on either side of a passline such that each electrode tip end is adjacent the passline. A space between the electrode tips defines an arc region which can be covered to form a semi-enclosed arc region. A method is also provided for manufacturing a plurality of fusion blocks from a single slab of non-conducting material by overlying the non-conducting material with a length of conducting material, bonding the conducting material to the non-conducting material, and cutting the slab into smaller fusion blocks.

  • Patent number: 5580876
Abstract: This invention relates to a method for selectively enhancing the analgesic potency of a bimodally-acting opioid agonist such as morphine and simultaneously attenuating anti-analgesia, hyperalgesia, hyperexcitability, physical dependence and/or tolerance effects associated with the administration of the bimodally-acting opioid agonist. The method of the present invention comprises administering to a subject an analgesic or sub-analgesic amount of a bimodally-acting opioid agonist such as morphine and an amount of an excitatory opioid receptor antagonist such as naltrexone or nalmefene effective to enhance the analgesic potency of the bimodally-acting opioid agonist and attenuate the anti-analgesia, hyperalgesia, hyperexcitability, physical dependence and/or tolerance effects of the bimodally-acting opioid agonist.

  • Patent number: 5580550
Abstract: Cosmetic compositions comprising an emulsion, preferably an aqueous emulsion, including at least one cosmetic resin material, e.g. a hydrocarbon resin such as polyisobutylene, are made by direct emulsification of the resin without a solvent or carrier therefor. The direct emulsification may be achieved by a special mixing regime, with particular emulsifiers. The absence of solvent or carrier for the resin material avoids product thinning and gives several manufacturing and processing advantages.

  • Patent number: 5580485
Abstract: A bleach and oxidation catalyst is provided comprising a catalytically active iron complex which can activate hydrogen peroxide or peroxy acids and was found to have both favourable stain removal and remarkable dye transfer inhibition properties. In addition, a considerably improved stability of these compounds in alkaline aqueous environment has been obtained, in particular at the peroxy compound concentrations generally present in the fabric washing liquor.

  • Patent number: 5579957
Abstract: A dispensing package is provided with a container and a cap. The cap includes a mechanism to fittingly engage across an open end of the container, a top portion defined by a deck, a skirt wall surrounding the deck, at least one dispensing orifice formed in the deck, a locking aperture with a wide and a narrow area preferably in a T-shape, a lid hingedly attached to the deck, a flexible post projecting downwardly from the lid, and a release mechanism along the skirt. The flexible post has an enlarged section at an end thereof which can lockingly engage underneath landings that define wide and narrow areas of the locking aperture. A flexible area along the skirt can be pushed inward against the enlarged section of the post to dislodge same from underneath the landings thereby opening the lid.

  • Patent number: 5577775
Abstract: A unitary, fully-assembled bearingless coolant union which transfers cooling fluid from a fluid source to an axial bore of a rotating spindle on a stationary machine. The union includes a main housing which holds in position both a rotor assembly and a stator assembly such that a rotating seal on the rotor assembly remains in fluid-tight contacting relation with a non-rotating seal on the stator assembly. Means are provided to allow the seal members to move axially with respect to the spindle's axis of rotation in response to axial movement by the spindle itself and to allow the inclination of the seal members from a plane transverse to this axis of rotation in response to minor misalignment of the rotor assembly from concentric relation with this axis of rotation. The two-step process for installing the union includes (1) attaching the end of the rotor assembly to a spindle, and (2) mounting the union's housing assembly upon the stationary machine within the allowable set-up tolerance.
