  • Patent number: 5092183
Abstract: The present invention pertains to a device for cooling testing tubes during sampling by evaporating a liquid. The cooling device causes a controlled cooling effect that is practically independent of the state of the ambient air during the sampling and is easy to handle. After flowing through the testing tube (2), the gas to be investigated flows through a layer of filler (7) that surrounds the testing tube (2) and is impregnated with a liquid.

  • Patent number: 5089232
Abstract: The invention is directed to an arrangement for measuring the concentration of gaseous or vaporous components of a gas mixture by using optically distinguishable reaction zones from gas test tubes which contain a substance reacting with the component to be detected. The change of the reaction zone is determined by means of direct observation and/or by means of an opto-electronic scanning device. This arrangement is improved in accordance with the invention in that the reacting substance is accommodated at least in one channel formed in a carrier. The channel has a cross section in the reaction zone which is less than 1 mm.sup.2.

  • Patent number: 5086642
Abstract: The invention is directed to a test vessel device for testing gas measuring and gas detection apparatus wherein a test substance atmosphere of a specific concentration of the test substance is present. The sensor head of a gas measuring apparatus can be introduced into the test vessel device. The test vessel device is improved in that a test substance atmosphere can be provided therein in a state of readiness over a longer time duration and the test substance atmosphere changes only insignificantly with respect to its composition and must not be first produced before carrying out the test. It is intended that the test vessel device be easily producible, have a low weight, be easily manipulable and be convenient to transport as well as be capable of storage. For this purpose, a liquid is introduced into the test vessel device which is closed in a gastight manner with a seal which can be penetrated.

  • Patent number: 5076904
Abstract: The invention is directed to an electrochemical measuring cell for determining ammonia or hydrazine in a gaseous or liquid measuring sample. The measuring cell has at least one measuring electrode and at least one counter electrode which are disposed in an electrolyte chamber filled with a soluble electrolyte. The electrolyte chamber is closed off in the direction facing toward the measuring sample by a permeable membrane. The measuring cell provides a selective ammonia measurement having the following advantages: a short response time, a linear response and a low tendency to drift. The electrodes of the measuring cell are so configured that the oxidation of the ammonia as a measurement reaction has no influence on the sensitivity of the measuring cell. For this purpose, at least the measuring electrode is provided with a coating containing cobalt oxide which is in direct contact with the electrolyte.

  • Patent number: 5076267
Abstract: A circulation respirator is capable of excess-pressure operation with a compressed gas source and an auxiliary pressure arrangement which brings about an increase in the pressure in the respiratory circulation. The apparatus includes measuring circuit connected to a pressure sensor for controlling the auxiliary pressure arrangement. Excess pressure is maintained in the respiratory circulation independently of the respiratory phase. The sensor is arranged as pressure sensor in the respiratory circulation only if the pressure falls below a preset positive nominal value of the pressure in the respiratory circulation.

  • Patent number: 5070872
Abstract: The invention is directed to a metering device for lung-demand valves and includes prepressure compensation. The metering device includes a valve body coacting with a valve seat for metering gas and a compensating piston is arranged between a primary pressure chamber and a secondary pressure chamber for transmitting the compensating force to the valve body. The compensating piston is guided in a compensating housing. The metering device is improved in that the compensating piston is movable without friction and a seal is easily secured. For this purpose, a membrane made of elastic material defines the seal unit. The membrane is tightly held and has a cylindrical side wall which is fixed in the compensating housing. The membrane has regions of reduced wall thickness on the periphery of the side wall and these regions are subdivided into segments or extend as one continuous portion around the periphery. • Patent number: 5065978
Abstract: A valve arrangement from microstructured components worked out of a basic body, for the control of fluids, include an actuation element which is movable relative to a flow path distributor and opens or closes fluid paths depending on its position. A transition from one position into the other is effected by adding an actuating drive connected to an electrical power source. The actuation element is held in its switch position. For a high fluid flow, a large force can be applied to the actuation element. The actuating drive works according to an operating principle aimed at covering the longest distance possible. A holding device is provided, which works according to an operating principle working independent of the first operating principle and provides the generation of the greatest cohesion possible.

  • Patent number: 5048517
Abstract: A respirator for recirculating breathing gases, comprises an expiration bag in which an internal tension spring is provided for compressing the bag, and an inspiration bag which can be connected to a respiration gas source. A CO.sub.2 -binding chemical cartridge and an oxygen source is arranged in the respiratory circuit. A space-saving arrangement of the tension spring provided in the breathing bag is also used to generate a positive pressure in the entire respiratory circuit. The positive pressure exercised by the tension springs in the respiratory circuit can be reduced rapidly if necessary, and the operation can be continued under normal pressure. To achieve this, the inspiration bag 11 is provided with an internally disposed pre-tensioning spring 101 serving to compress the inspiration bag.

  • Patent number: 5049317
Abstract: The invention is directed to an arrangement for generating and metering a gas mixture which includes controllable adjusting elements whereby the gas mixture is either conducted through a bypass line past a vaporizer unit to a consumer or is conducted through the vaporizer unit and from there to the consumer. With this arrangement, a calibration of the carrier gas metering especially at low flow quantities is obtained which is continuously reproducible and either carried out manually or automatically without interruption of the metering operation. This is achieved in that a calibrating line opens into a calibrating vessel upstream of the vaporizer unit and the calibrating vessel can be separated by way of shutoff valves from the vaporizer line and a level indicator is connected to the calibrating vessel.

  • Patent number: 5042471
Abstract: A respirator with regeneration of the respired air by several chemical fillings, which emit oxygen and bind carbon dioxide and are disposed in parallel in the respiratory passage between a mouthpiece and a breather bag is to be improved, so that a uniform utilization of the chemicals in the fillings is achieved. The different resistances of the respiratory paths of the fillings are to be evened up so that the pollutant load on and the consumption of the fillings can be divided up evenly over the existing fillings during the whole of the period of use. For this purpose, provisions are made so that each filling is connected to its own breather bag for accommodating the exhaled air flowing through it.

  • Patent number: 5040530
Abstract: A breathing mask with a half mask and a nape band is to be improved such that secure contact of the mask in the entire nose and mouth region of the mask user is ensured by the nape band. The mask is thus effectively prevented from slipping despite the fact that the band is located in the nape region only. An additional application of a hood is possible without providing additional holding members. To accomplish this task, the band can be applied in the form of a rubber-elastic cuff (5) which has a neck opening (6) and a head opening (7). The mask and cuff are preferably made in one piece of silicone rubber, and the hood can additionally be bonded to the cuff.
