Abstract: The present invention relates to structural, radically curable resin compositions suitable for (re)lining containing a. 30-70 wt. % of a resin characterized by (i) a molecular weight Mn between 500 and 3000 and (ii) an acid value between 0 and 30 mg KOH/g resin, and wherein at least 80 % of the total amount of resin is vinyl ester resin, b. 30-70 wt. % of at least one reactive diluent, characterized in that at least 25% of the reactive diluent is a difunctional diluent having a molecular weight Mn between 200 and 500 and the optional monofunctional diluent having a molecular weight Mn between 100 and 200, c. 0.00001-5 wt. % initiator, d. 0.00001-5 wt. % inhibitor further characterized in that the average molecular weight per reactive unsaturation (WPU) of the components (a) and (b) is equal or greater than 190 Dalton and that the amount of styrene in the resin composition is less than 5 wt. % (calculated as wt. % of the total weight of the components (a), (b), (c) and (d)).

Abstract: The present invention provides polycarbonate polyol compositions with improved characteristics. Such polycarbonate polyol compositions are useful in thermosetting applications for the production of coatings for consumer products. The present invention provides compositions having such improved characteristics, in particular, polycarbonate polyol compositions having a glass transition temperature (Tg) from about ?20° C. to about 60° C., from about ?20° C. to about 50° C., or from about 0° C. to about 30° C., are particularl useful in thermosetting applications. In some embodiments, polycarbonate polyol compositions have a Tg from about ?20° C. to about 3° C. In some embodiments, polycarbonate polyol compositions have a Tg from about 0° C. to about 50° C., from about 0° C. to about 50° C., or from about 10 “C. to about 40° C.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of a diol sulfone derivative comprising reaction of a halomethyl substrate with a thio-aryl compound to obtain a thio-ether compound, and oxidizing the thio-ether compound to the corresponding sulfone. In case of a chiral halomethyl substrate, the resulting chiral diol sulfone derivative is suitable as a building block for statin type compounds.
Abstract: Methods for the preparation of polymer-templated core-shell nanoparticles include the steps of (a) preparing a cationic polymeric core material comprising polymeric micelles, and (b) coating the core material with a silica-comprising shell by depositing the shell onto the polymeric micelles from at least one silica precursor to form the core-shell nanoparticles. Compositions which include the core-shell nanoparticles are adapted to facilitate controlled delivery of at least one active agent into a system in response to controlled changes in the pH of the system.
Abstract: Improved process for working up diacetone acrylamide solutions, obtained by reaction of acetone or diacetone alcohol with acrylonitrile and sulfuric acid and subsequent dilution and neutralization, in which a) the organic phase obtained subsequent to the neutralization, which comprises the crude diacetone acrylamide, is hydrolyzed by addition of an aqueous alkaline solution in order to remove acrylamide, then b) after phase separation has been carried out, the organic phase, which comprises the crude diacetone acrylamide, is neutralized by addition of an acid, and c) in succession, low-boiling-point byproducts are removed by distillation in the presence of one or more polymerization inhibitors, then t-butylacrylamide is removed by distillation and, finally, the diacetone acrylamide is isolated by product distillation, and d) the diacetone acrylamide thus obtained is converted into its final form.
