Abstract: A floor mat is formed essentially of cross-linked polyolefin foam for the lining of the floor interiors of motor vehicles. This mat includes a cross-linked polyolefin foam floor mat base having at least one preselected surface area covered with a permanently applied floor-protecting surface layer. The layer is made up of cross-linked polyolefin foam layer and a thermoplastic polymeric film which is heatable in a high-frequency electrical field in dielectric fashion and which exhibits wear resistance superior to the cross-linked polyolefin foam or base. The cross-linked polyolefin foam base is preshaped to conform to the contours of the floor interior of a motor vehicle.

Abstract: A process for effecting the recovery and use of a heavy metal oxidation catalyst from a high-boiling distillation residue obtained during the Witten process for the production of dimethyl terephthalate involves the extraction of the high-boiling distillation reside with water or dilute aqueous solution of low molecular weight aliphatic monocarboxylic acids or alcohols and recycling of the extract into the oxidation stage of the Witten process. In the extract the quantitative ratio of the sum of the amount of trimellitic acid and monomethyl ester of trimellitic acid to the amount of heavy metal catalyst is controlled to be at a value of no more than 1.8:1 and in the oxidation stage of the Witten process the catalyst concentration (c), expressed in p.p.m., is represented by the formula:c=44.multidot.(a/b)+dwherein a represents the sum of trimellitic acid and monomethyl ester of trimellitic acid, b is the amount of heavy metal oxidation catalyst within the extract, and d is in a range of from 60 to 300 p.p.m.

Abstract: A sliding window with a frame provided with a glazing adapted to be mounted in a wall of masonry, wood, or the like. The frame is composed of frame profiles joined at the corners and contains glass panes inserted therein. The glass panes are guided in grooves of the frame profiles and are horizontally displaceable. The frame profile members are constructed of an extrudable synthetic resinous material, with the profile members having a U-shaped cross sectional configuration made up of two projections fashioned as hollow chambers. An undercut mounting groove is arranged between the two projections and a web, connecting the projections, is formed of two juxtaposed hollow chambers. One of the juxtaposed hollow chambers facing a weather side of the window is provided with perforations for draining the mounting groove, with a second of the juxtaposed hollow chambers containing, if desired, an inserted reinforcing profile.

Abstract: An improved process for the preparation of oligomeric bromine containing xylylene bisphenol ethers is described wherein xylylene dichlorides and/or dibromides are reacted with bisphenols at 85.degree. to 160.degree. C. in the presence of an alkaline compound or employing the bisphenol in the form of an alkali salt wherein the reaction is conducted employing a ketone as solvent.
Abstract: Process for purifying hexamethyldisiloxane contaminated with toluene or other solvents that cannot be completely separated from the hexamethyldisiloxane by distillation, based on the discovery that hexamethyldisiloxane forms a previously unknown azeotrope with acetonitrile. This azeotrope has a heavier phase that is rich in acetonitrile and a lighter phase that is rich in hexamethyldisiloxane. These phases are mutually immiscible. The azeotrope starts to boil at 71.4.degree. C., which permits the hexamethyldisiloxane to be separated at relatively low temperatures from the impurities. The process involves one or more entrainment distillations in the presence of an excess of acetonitrile and the re-separation of the acetonitrile from the resulting lighter phase by distillation. Two further novel azeotropic systems, one consisting of hexamethyldisiloxane and toluene and the other of acetonitrile and toluene, are provided.
Abstract: A dome-shaped molded component or device for use with an operative element, e.g. a hollow-charge mine, is adapted to be connected at a continuous rim with the operative element. The device comprises a flexible body formed of an elastic material and at least one venting means for venting a cavity defined by the body when the device is placed in its functional or operative position. The device also has a rib arranged on the body for causing the body to deploy from a collapsed introverted inoperative initial position to an extended extroverted, operative position. The body part of the device is compressed under elastic deformation and is held in this position by a retaining unit for applying an external force to the device so that the device is collapsed within the operative element. Upon release of the externally effective force, the rib effects the deployment of the body into its functional or operative position.

Abstract: The present invention relates to foams made of resol-type phenolic resins which do not discolor as quickly as prior-art phenolic foams. With the additive in accordance with the invention, even colored foams will not darken as readily. The foams in accordance with the invention contain as stabilizers salts of phosphinic acid or phosphonic acid, such as the primary alkali phosphites or the alkali phosphinates. The stabilizers, which protect the foams against the action of light and/or air and/or heat, are used in amounts ranging from 0.1 to 5 weight percent. The present invention further relates to methods of preparing such foams. In a preferred method, the stabilizers are admixed with an expandable resol-type phenolic resin, the mixture so obtained is mixed with the other substances necessary to formation of a foam, and the whole mixture is then foamed conventionally.
Abstract: An insulating panel suitable for the covering of roof structures includes a core layer of a synthetic foam material bonded adhesively on its top side to a sealing thermoplastic layer. The core layer is formed of an elastic closed-cell crosslinked polyolefin foamed material.
