    Abstract: A welding sleeve connector for the connection of molded components made of a thermoplastic synthetic resin employs the heat energy generated by pyrotechnical material. This connector has a thermoplastic sleeve and a plurality of pyrotechnical heating charges for producing the welding heat energy. Each charge is individually enclosed in a casing of a solid material arranged in the sleeve, and the encased heating charges are separately positioned in the sleeve at predetermined spacing from each other over the circumference of the sleeve. The connector also has a device for igniting the heating charges.

    Abstract: A fastening element having a cavity containing an explosive charge arranged so that, upon explosion of the explosive charge, anchoring of the fastening element in a bore of a workpiece takes place automatically. This fastening element functions both as a rivet and nail in combination and comprises sleeve means defining the cavity containing the explosive charge at one end and providing an aperture at the other end, and a nail disposed within the sleeve means, said nail comprising a head, shank and a tip and being arranged to be driven outside the aperture formed in the other end of the sleeve means. The head of the nail acts as a piston which can be driven by explosion of the explosive charge and as a stop which arrests the driving-out movement when the shank of the nail has passed through said aperture.

    Abstract: An igniter unit for igniting of propellant charges comprises an igniter element operatively associated with a booster charge. The igniter element is arranged within an external housing and the booster charge is provided in an internal housing arranged within the external housing. The internal housing has a closed, lateral wall and a closed base at one end which withstands the ignition pressure generated upon ignition of the igniter element and the booster charge. The internal housing is provided with means for defining openings for causing the cloud of gas produced by ignition to flow from the booster charge and the igniter element to one end, that is the front end, of the internal housing to effect the ignition of the propellant charge.

    Abstract: A multi-stage reactor for the oxidation of alkyl aromatics, e.g. a mixture of p-xylene and methyl p-toluate in a liquid phase reaction mixture with oxygen-containing gases, e.g. air, under elevated pressure and at an elevated temperature in the presence of an oxidation catalyst is in the form of an elongated closed tank with a multiplicity of neighboring reaction chambers arranged successively from one end to the other end of the tank for containing the liquid reaction mixture at predetermined levels in each chamber. The reactor is provided with an oxidizing gas feed system for introducing an oxidizing gas into each chamber, feed means for introducing at least one alkyl aromatic reactant and an oxidation catalyst into at least one of the reaction chambers, a vapor-collecting conduit means in communication with each of said chambers for removing reaction gas from each of said chambers, and a discharge means for removing the oxidized product from the reactor tank.

    Abstract: Process of preparing bis-chloromethyl tetrachlorobenzene of the formula ##STR1## In a first stage xylene is contacted with chlorine for formation of tetrachloroxylene, in the presence of iron chloride catalyst. In a second stage the tetrachloroxylene is contacted with chlorine for formation of (I), in the presence of radical catalyst. According to the invention, the second stage is performed in the presence of iron chloride catalyst from the first stage and in the presence of hexamethylenetetramine for complexing with the iron chloride catalyst. Thereby the iron chloride catalyst does not interfere with the second stage.

    Abstract: A process for separating radioactive impurities from baddeleyite to obtain zirconium dioxide containing only traces of radioactive impurities, comprising grinding the baddeleyite preferably to a particle size of a maximum of 2% greater than 0.06 mm and then treating it directly with a 10 to 60% by weight aqueous alkali hydroxide solution at elevated temperatures below the boiling point of said solution at temperatures of 80.degree. to 140.degree. C. for 2 to 15 hours or until the desired degree of purity of the zirconium dioxide is obtained. In a preferred embodiment, sodium hydroxide is utilized and the ground baddeleyite preliminarily has been purified to the content of greater than 98% (zirconium dioxide+hafnium dioxide) by known methods.

    Abstract: A process for the production of monofilaments of polyvinylidene fluoride is disclosed wherein polyvinylidene fluoride is plasticized in an extruder and fed to an extrusion die and passed through an extrusion nozzle orifice to enter a liquid cooling medium having a thermal conductivity of under 0.4 W/m .degree.K., a viscosity at 100.degree. C. of over 0.5 cp and a density at 100.degree. C. of over 1.1 g/cm.sup.3. Extusion is performed by passing the plasticized polyvinylidene fluoride over separate extrusion zones such as by passing the polyvinylidene fluoride over a first extrusion zone maintained at a first extrusion temperature and thereafter passing the polyvinylidene fluoride through a second extrusion zone maintained at a temperature of 10 to 30 percent higher than the preceeding extrusion zone. An apparatus for carrying out the process is also described.
