Abstract: Aryl sulfonic acid esters of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 represents hydrogen, alkyl groups of 1 to 8 carbon atoms, bromine or chlorine, R.sup.2 represents R.sup.1 or the group ##STR2## Hal represents bromine or chlorine, x the numbers 2 to 4, n the numbers 3 to 5, y the numbers 4-x; m = 5-n, R.sup.3 represents bromine, chlorine or the group ##STR3## and Z represents --O--, --S--, ##STR4## alkylene with 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or alkylidene; a process for their product and their use as a flame retardant, especially for polyolefins.

Abstract: A fabric-reinforced sealing sheet formed of a synthetic thermoplastic resin suitable for sealing large areas of structures including building constructions, underground constructions and the like by the spot-like or strip-shaped mounting to the structures, which has a reinforcing fabric embedded within a mass of thermoplastic synthetic resin. The fabric is provided at spaced intervals with fabric-reinforcing strips which extend throughout the fabric-reinforced sealing sheet.

Abstract: A process for producing flexible formed explosive charges includes the steps of admixing at least one elastomer which exhibits an elongation of at least 800% and a tear strength of between 50 and 350 kp./cm.sup.2, at least one high-brisance explosive component and at least one plasticizer that has a melting point of less than -20.degree. C. and that does not substantially evaporate up to a temperature of 90.degree. C. and thereafter forming the resulting admixture into a shaped or formed explosive charge. The high-brisance explosive component has a detonating velocity of at least 6000 m/sec.

Abstract: A process for the preparation of a varnish resin having a viscosity of 1000 to 4000 cP, an acid number from 0 to 1 and an OH number between 100 and 250, useful in the absence of a solvent, by a two-step process involving condensation of a polycarboxylic acid or anhydride with a polyalcohol in a first step until there is obtained an intermediate resin whose acid number is between 10 and 80 and whose viscosity is between 30,000 and 180,000 cP and wherein in the second step there is added to the resultant resin from the first step a glycidyl ester of a saturated aliphatic carboxylic acid and the same is condensed with the resultant resin at a temperature of 110 to 150.degree. C until the acid number of the resin is between 0 and 1 and the resin has a viscosity between 1000 and 4000 cP.

Abstract: Process for production of dipropyleneglycol dibenzoate isomer mixture of the formulas: ##STR1## A crude methyl benzoate containing at least 80 wt.% methylbenzoate, which is a by-product of production of dimethylterephthalate by catalytic oxidation of p-xylene and/or methyl-p-toluate and esterification of the resulting acids with methanol, is contacted with dipropylene glycol commercial isomer mixture in the presence of a catalyst for a transesterification to produce said benzoate. The catalyst is an aluminum alkoxide or an aluminum silicon alkoxide containing the group Al O Si. The product is obtained in good yield, has good color, and is useful as a plasticizer for PVC.
Abstract: A polyamide composition, useful in the preparation of transparent sheets, having improved resistivity toward solvents containing moieties of terephthalic acid and 2-methylpentamethylenediamine, said polyamide characterized by a content of moieties of 2-ethyltetramethyldiamine and/or of isophthalic acid in a concentration totalling 15 to 30 mole percent, with respect to the sum of all diamine moieties or all dicarboxylic acid moieties, as the case may be.

Abstract: Brominated dibenzofuran of the formula ##STR1## WHEREIN X + Y = 6.0 TO 7.0 AND Y = 0 TO 0.3. The brominated dibenzofuran can be prepared by reaction of bromine and dibenzofuran at 0.degree. and 150.degree. C in the presence of halogenation catalyst. The products are useful as flameproofing agents for organic polymers, e.g. polyethylene.
Abstract: A method is provided for the preparation of 2-arylbenzoxazoles and 2-arylbenzthiazoles which comprises reacting a trichloromethyl-substituted aromatic compound with an aromatic compound carrying one amino group and one hydroxy or mercapto group in ortho position to each other. The compounds obtained by the process of the invention form the basis of numerous optical brighteners and find use in dyes, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and heat-resistant fibers.
Abstract: A propellant charge composition comprising individual powder particles of a nitrocellulose propellant coated with a coating of an acrylic resin and a process for its preparation. Also disclosed is a propellant charge composition of the type described containing a second propellant.
Abstract: Aryloxymethylbenzoic acid phenyl ester of the formula ##STR1## wherein X represents oxygen or sulfur, and each R represents residue of a mononuclear or polynuclear phenol which can be substituted. The ester can be produced by reacting the corresponding chloromethylbenzoic acid phenyl ester with the alkali salt of the phenol corresponding to the aryl group of said aryloxymethyl group. The products are useful as additives for plastics to impart flame resistance thereto.
Abstract: In a process for preparing substituted or unsubstituted carboxylic acid chlorides of the benzene series by contacting the corresponding carboxylic acid ester with an aromatic compound containing at least one nuclearly bound trichlormethyl group in the presence of a molybdenum catalyst, the improvement which comprises introducing into the reaction mixture prior to distillation of the carboxylic acid chloride a complexing agent which complexes with the molybdenum catalyst.
