Abstract: An improvement in a process for the preparation of an .alpha.-chloromethylsilane of the general formulaClCH.sub.2 (CH.sub.3).sub.3-n SiCl.sub.n (n = 0 to 3) IIby chlorination of a methylchlorosilane of the general formula(CH.sub.3).sub.4-n SiCl.sub.n Iwith elemental chlorine while exposing the reaction mixture to light, the improvement residing in maintaining the reaction mixture at a temperature in the vicinity of the boiling point of the methylsilane to be chlorinated by regulating the metering in of methylsilane to be chlorinated and continuously passing chlorine gas through the reaction zone at a constant rate and withdrawing reaction product at such a rate that the concentration of chloromethylsilane amounts up to 18 weight percent.

Abstract: An antistatic and/or electrically conductive floor covering which comprises a sheet of a thermoplastic synthetic resin which is substantially electrically non-conductive, said sheet having a plurality of holes penetrating therethrough and electrically conductive material filling said holes with one side of the sheet being coated with said conductive material so that the materials in each of said holes are connected to one another.
Abstract: A process for the production of bilaterally corrugated plastic sheets by extruding a plastic synthetic resin composition, preferably soft PVC, from a slotted nozzle fashioned in a double comb-like shape, stretching the sheet in the longitudinal direction of the ribs during the drawing-off process and passing the sheet through a cooled glazing or smoothing calender. Also disclosed are various sheets produced by the above-process as well as methods for joining the same together.

Abstract: A process for sizing an extruded thermoplastic structure or member formed by coextrusion of a core profile of one thermoplastic material and a cover layer of another thermoplastic material provided over a portion of the periphery of the core profile which includes the steps of sizing the extruded plastic structure in the external cross sectional dimensions, cooling during the sizing step the structure and effecting a different temperature control of the cooling of the cross section of the profile depending upon the thermoplastic material being cooled. The thermoplastic material having the higher Vicat softening temperature being more gradually cooled than the one having a lower Vicat softening temperature.
Abstract: Method of preparing granular quartz glass which comprises heating a porous granulated silica gel having an alkoxy group content equal to or less than 1 weight percent and a total impurity content of less than 1 part per million, the porous granulated silica gel obtained by hydrolysis of an orthosilicic acid ester of an aliphatic alcohol at a temperature up to 1400.degree. C.

Abstract: Training ammunition for mortars having a projectile disposed in a cartridge case and provided with a propellant charge for being fired from a barrel insert of a dummy shell. An ejector charge is associated with the cartridge case and is provided with an ignition device and is arranged for ejecting the dummy shell together with the cartridge case from the mortar barrel. A flash hole is arranged between the propellant charge and the ejector charge, and an ignition jet conducting tube is disposed coaxially within the ejector charge and extends from the ignition device to the end of the ejector charge facing the flash hole. The ignition jet conducting tube is provided with at least one radial ignition aperture therethrough.
Abstract: Ammunition belt apparatus for accommodating propellant cartridges including a flexible, coilable belt strip, a plurality of holes extending transversely through the strip and spaced from one another in the longitudinal direction of the strip, and clamping means associated with each of the holes for clamping a cartridge to the strip with portions of the cartridge extending through one of the holes, and with parts of said clamping means being formed separately from the strip and the cartridge. In preferred embodiments, the clamping means includes a tubular casing formed separately from the strip for each of the holes, which tubular casing press-fittingly engages a respective cartridge for holding the cartridge in position on the strip with the casing and a cartridge rim clamping the strip therebetween. Various preferred embodiments include various types of connections for the casings at the strip as well as various materials for the construction of the strip and the casings.

Abstract: A process for producing a linear polyester which comprises:(1) condensing excess 1,4-butanediol with a lower alkyl ester of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid at a temperature of less than 200.degree. C;(2) removing uncondensed 1,4-butanediol therefrom so that the reaction mixture contains no more than 1% by weight 1,4-butanediol;(3) condensing the so-formed dicarboxylic acid-bis-(4-hydroxy butyl ester) and any oligomer thereof with a dicarboxylic acid at a temperature of 200 to 250.degree. C, the dicarboxylic acid being present in no more than a stoichiometric amount; and(4) polycondensing the resultant condensate by heating the same at between 250.degree. and 310.degree. C in a vacuum.
Abstract: A linear saturated crystalline polyester of an acid moiety and a moiety of a dihydric alcohol, at least 40% of the acid moiety being a terephthalic acid moiety, said polyester containing moieties of 1,4-butanediol and 1,6-hexanediol, the ratio of the 1,4-butanediol moieties to 1,6-hexanediol moieties being 10:90 to 90:10; the use of such polyesters as a fusion coating mass, particularly in securing textile substances to a substrate.
Abstract: A process for the production of dimethyl terephthalate and intermediate products of the dimethyl terephthalate manufacture from the high-boiling by-products obtained during the air oxidation of p-xylene and methyl p-toluate in the liquid phase, subsequent esterification of the thus-formed acids, and separation of the thus-produced esters, which comprises treating said high-boiling by-products with methanol at an elevated temperature and then separating the resultant product rich in dimethyl terephthalate by distillation with the addition of a carrier gas or a carrier vapor.
Abstract: Production of terephthalic acid dichloride and isophthalic acid dichloride by hydrolysis with water as a gas according to the following overall reaction: ##STR1## A Friedel-Crafts catalyst is used and some of the dichloride produced is maintained present throughout the reaction. The reaction is fast and the yield is high.
Abstract: Surface active, liquid, hydroxyl-containing mixed esters which are condensation products of:(a) 1 mole of triethanolamine, glycerine, trimethylolpropane or pentaerythritol,(b) 1 to 2 moles of a saturated, branched, aliphatic or cycloaliphatic carboxylic acid of 16 to 26 C atoms or mixtures thereof, and(c) 0.1 to 0.9 moles, preferably 0.1 to 0.7 moles, of an aliphatic straight-chain or branched dicarboxylic acid of 3 to 10 C atoms, or mixtures thereof.

Abstract: Apparatus for the thermal and electrical initiation of fire protection devices including a housing with a displaceable support member and an abutment member provided therein. A blocking or spacing device is disposed between the displaceable support member and the abutment member with the displaceable supports member being biased against said blocking device in the direction toward the abutment member. The blocking device is responsive to the exceeding of a predetermined temperature for enabling displacement of the displaceable support member for initiating a fire protection device. The abutment member is constructed as a plunger displaceable within the housing in the direction towards the displaceable support member, and an electrically actuatable compressed-gas-generating igniter device is disposed on the side of the plunger facing away from the blocking device for producing compressed gas to cause displacement of the plunger toward the blocking device.
