  • Patent number: 11719953
Abstract: A method for collimating light using a film including elongated chambers of bistable electrophoretic fluids. The light-collimating films are suitable to control the amount and/or direction of light incident to a transmissive substrate. Such films may be integrated into devices, such as LCD displays, to provide a zone of privacy for a user viewing the LCD display. Because the light-collimating film is switchable, it allows a user to alter the collimation of the emitted light on demand. Because the films are bistable, they do not require additional power after they have been switched to a display state.

  • Patent number: 11694644
Abstract: Methods for driving an electrophoretic medium including two pairs of oppositely charged particles. The first pair including a first type of positive particles and a first type of negative particles and the second pair consists of a second type of positive particles and a second type of negative particles, wherein the first pair of particles and the second pair of particles have different charge magnitudes (identifiable as zeta potentials). In particular, the driving methods produce cleaner optical stakes of the lesser-charged particles with less contamination from the other particles and more consistent electro-optical performance when the intermediate driving voltages are modified.

  • Patent number: 11688357
Abstract: The present invention provides improved driving methods for four particle electrophoretic displays that improves the performance of such displays when they are deployed in low temperature environments and the displays are required to be updated when positioned vertically (i.e., the driving electric fields are substantially perpendicular to the direction of Earth's gravity). Methods are provided for displaying each of the colors at each pixel, as desired, with minimal interference (contamination) from the other particles.

  • Patent number: 11656526
Abstract: A switchable light-collimating film can be used as a privacy filter for computer monitors or other display devices. The film comprises a plurality of elongated chambers having pigment particles, the position of which can be controlled by the applied electric field. Distribution of the pigment particles throughout the elongated chambers, as opposed to their concentration on one side of the chambers, narrows the viewing angle to the light passing through the film and provides privacy of the viewing images to the user.

  • Patent number: 11580920
Abstract: The present invention provides improved driving methods for four particle electrophoretic displays. The driving methods improve the color state performance when a first pixel is displaying a mixed state of a first highly-charged particle and a second lower-charged particle of the opposite polarity, while a neighboring pixel is displaying a state of a second highly-charged particle having the opposite polarity to the first highly-charged particle. The particles can be, for example, all reflective or one type of particle can be partially light transmissive.
