  • Patent number: 5527702
Abstract: A method for the induction of callus cells capable of producing taxanes from explant tissue by partially submerging the explant tissue in a liquid culture medium on a membrane raft, resulting in callus formation. The induction of callus cells by this method provides direct transfer of the cells formed to a liquid medium for a suspension cell culture preparation of taxanes. Thus, there is no need of a separate growth or proliferation step in the method of this invention. Furthermore, callus cells can be produced by the method; and also disclosed is a method for the use of the callus cells so produced in a suspension cell culture preparation for taxanes.

  • Patent number: 5525726
Abstract: Racemic Feist's acid is treated with (R)-(+) -.alpha.-methylbenzylamine to yield (1R-trans)-3-methylene -cyclopropane-1,2-dicarboxylic acid, (R)-.alpha.-methylbenzyl-amine (1:1) salt. This salt can then be converted to (1R-trans)-3-methylene-1,2-cyclopropanedicarboxylic acid, dimethyl ester which is an intermediate in the preparation of the antiviral agent [1R-(1.alpha.,2.beta.,3.alpha.)]-2-amino-9-[2,3-bis(hydroxymethyl)cyclobut yl]-1,9-dihydro-6H-purin-6-one. The improved process also enables the recovery of racemic Feist's acid from the resolution.

  • Patent number: 5520658
Abstract: A dispensing device for dispensing at least two fluids comprises a housing (12,22) of a pistol-like configuration having an integral handle (50), in which a spring-biased trigger (60) is received. Within the housing (12,22) of the dispensing device (10), two syringes (80,81) are received and fixated, which syringes contain respective fluids to be accurately dispensed. Provided a cover (22) of the housing is closed, the motion of the trigger (60) relative to the handle (50) is transmitted to a toothed rack which cooperates with a propeller body (70) in a ratchet-like manner. The ratchet-like cooperation allows a uni-directional motion of the propeller body (70) and prevents a motion of the propeller body (70) in the opposite direction.

  • Patent number: 5520670
Abstract: The ostomy device includes a waste collection pouch and an adhesive faceplate adapted to mount the pouch to the body, adjacent the stoma. To attach the pouch to the faceplate, coupling rings, mounted respectively on each part, are aligned and snapped together. A hook member provided on the vertical centerline of the faceplate has a planar top surface which cooperates with a laterally extending elongated element located on the vertical centerline of the pouch to allow the pouch to swing to a position where the couplng rings are aligned to facilitate coupling of the rings. The hook may also have a mechanism to lock the pouch element, acting as an auxilary connection.
