Abstract: A fault indicator contained within a protective equipment closure of the type used to house pad-mounted components of a power distribution system detects the occurrence of a fault current in a monitored conductor and provides a light indication thereof. The fault indicator includes a circuit monitoring module, having an integral fault indicator flag module, and a remote fault indicator light module. A status-indicating flag is rotatably mounted in the integral fault indicator flag module. The flag is positioned in either a reset indicating position or a fault indicating position by a magnetic pole piece, which is magnetized in one magnetic direction or the other by momentary application of a current in one direction or the other to an actuator winding on the pole piece.
Abstract: The present invention relates to blends of copolymers having a certain percentage of vinyl acetate monomer with a terpolymer having a certain percentage of vinyl acetate wherein the composition provides heat and flame resistant properties to wires and cable or other manufactured goods prepared from such compositions. The preferred blends comprise or consist essentially of alkylene-vinyl acetate copolymers blended with alkylene/vinyl acetate/CO terpolymers selected from, for example, ethylene-vinyl acetate and ethylene/vinyl acetate/carbon monoxide. The blends are prepared by combining the ingredients with other excipients selected from aluminum trihydrate, carbon black, stearic acid, tri(2-methoxyethoxy) vinyl silane, polymeric hindered phenol, dilaurylthiopropionate, N,N'-m-phenylenedimalemide, and .alpha.,.alpha.'-bis (t-butylperoxy)diisopropylbenzene. The blends of the invention actually simulate a high vinyl acetate content EVA.
Abstract: An ultraviolet (UV) light disinfection method and apparatus is provided that disinfects produce products such as fruits and vegetables by direct exposure to ultraviolet light. The disinfecting UV light eliminates pathogens, such as molds and bacteria from the surfaces that it illuminates. The produce product is disinfected over its entire surface. The produce product can be rotated on a conveyor, to illuminate all of the exterior surface of the produce product with a disinfecting UV light source. To better respond to produce products of varying height and size, the UV light disinfection apparatus can include an automatic actuator. The automatic actuator maintains the UV light source at a preselected level of separation between the produce product and the UV light source. The automatic actuator is responsive to a height sensor that detects the top height of the produce product.
Abstract: An improved process for the preparation of 3-pentenoic acid by reaction of butadiene with carbon monoxide and water in the presence of a rhodium-containing catalyst and an iodide promoter where carbon monoxide stripping is employed to separate and recover the 3-pentenoic acid product.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for warehousing information in a wallet consolidator. The wallet consolidator includes a controller for controlling operation of the wallet consolidator, a magnetic stripe reader/writer for reading and writing magnetic stripes, a bar code scanner for scanning bar codes, a keypad for inputting user selections and commands, a memory for storing information provided to the wallet consolidator, a smart card interface for effectuating communication between the wallet consolidator and a smart card and a display screen for displaying text and graphics, the display screen further for displaying a bar code pattern capable of being scanned by a bar code reader. To store information in the wallet consolidator, or alternatively in a smart card interfaced to the wallet consolidator, information is read from magnetic stripes on various types of cards such as, but not limited to, credit, debit and identification cards.
Abstract: A process is provided which can be used to clarify substantially aqueous streams and optionally separate biosolids, especially proteins, from food processing operations which comprises contacting an aqueous stream comprising biosolids with an anionic inorganic colloid and an organic polymer, to flocculate the biosolids.
Abstract: This invention concerns a modified porous microcomposite comprising a perfluorinated ion-exchange polymer entrapped within and highly dispersed throughout a network of inorganic oxide wherein the network and optionally the pendant groups of the polymer have been modified with a Lewis acid. These modified microcomposites can be used in catalyst compositions for various chemical processes, such as in the alkylation or acylation of aromatics.

Abstract: An electrochemical analyte sensor formed using conductive traces on a substrate can be used for determining and/or monitoring a level of analyte in in vitro or in vivo analyte-containing fluids. For example, an implantable sensor may be used for the continuous or automatic monitoring of a level of an analyte, such as glucose, lactate, or oxygen, in a patient. The electrochemical analyte sensor includes a substrate and conductive material disposed on the substrate, the conductive material forming a working electrode. In some sensors, the conductive material is disposed in recessed channels formed in a surface of the sensor. An electron transfer agent and/or catalyst may be provided to facilitate the electrolysis of the analyte or of a second compound whose level depends on the level of the analyte. A potential is formed between the working electrode and a reference electrode or counter/reference electrode and the resulting current is a function of the concentration of the analyte in the body fluid.

Abstract: A sheet laminate for use in a press lay-up between printed circuit board panels having a steel substrate layer and a copper foil layer releasibly bonded to at least one surface of the substrate layer.
Abstract: A process for removing free fatty acids (FFA) and preferably cholesterol from liquid anhydrous animal fats is described. The process uses a dilute solution of alkali metal base to form a salt of the FFA and then an alkali metal salt to precipitate the FFA from the animal fat. Preferably, a cyclodextrin is used in the process to remove cholesterol. Liquid vegetable fats are used in blends with the processed animal fat to produce a spreadable mixture for table use. The processed animal fat can be reconstituted to whole milk with the FFA and cholesterol removed for various commercial uses.
Abstract: An improved wristwatch assembly is provided. The wristwatch assembly comprises a watchcase and a bangle bracelet. One end of the bracelet is fixed to the case, while the other end "swingably" wraps around the case, creating an integrated design flow. The swingable motion of the case not only is aesthetically pleasing, but enables the watch design to be easily placed on the wrist and conform thereto, as well as to be easily removed from the wrist.
Abstract: An electrophoretic display element includes a capsule having a first, larger surface and a second, smaller surface. The capsule contains a suspending fluid and at least one particle dispersed within said suspending fluid. Application of a first electrical field causes the particle or particles to migrate towards the first, larger surface of the capsule, causing it to take on the visual appearance of the particles. Application of a second electrical field causes the particle or particles to migrate towards the second, smaller surface, allowing the capsule to take on the visual appearance of the dispersing fluid or of a substrate or electrode positioned behind the display element. Displays may be fabricated from multiple display elements arranged on a substrate.
Abstract: A stackable ball grid array module in which a chip select decoder is used to reduce the number of busses required for communication between modules. Additional modules may be added without requiring additional interconnect lines in the array. Cooling of the individual modules may be accomplished using a support member made from an enhanced heat transfer material or placing an enhanced heat transfer material layer between the modules. The devices on the module may be encapsulated, and the modules may be constructed in a chip first or cavity-down configuration. Methods are also disclosed.
