  • Patent number: 5874171
Abstract: A composition comprising a high-melting perfluoroplastic swollen at a swelling temperature to the extent of at least one percent with a solution of a second, lower-melting perfluoropolymer in a solvent; and an assembly made by contacting said swollen perfluoroplastic material with a surface of an interlayer at a first temperature, contacting another surface of the interlayer with a substrate and applying pressure to cause the interlayer to adhere to both the perfluoroplastic and the substrate and thus form an assembly, and heating the assembly to a second temperature.

  • Patent number: 5873450
Abstract: An infeed conveyor for a packaging machine having a first squeezer conveyor including upper and lower belts spaced to receive workpieces in an end-to-end relationship. Upper speed-up rollers and lower speed-up rollers advance the workpieces further along the path of the first squeezer conveyor. A second conveyor being provided for receiving the workpieces from the speed-up rollers. A third conveyor being positioned above the second conveyor and operating at a lower rate of speed whereby when an upper leading edge of a workpiece engages with the third conveyor, the workpiece is rotated approximately ninety-degrees from its previous orientation. Flight bars rotate with the second conveyor at a rate faster than the second conveyor thereby bunching the workpieces into abutting groups of a predetermined size for entry into a packaging machine.

  • Patent number: 5875376
Abstract: A carriage positioning structure includes a carriage pivoted to a longitudinal guide rod and reciprocated along a longitudinal sliding rail inside a scanner between a bottom shell and a flat glass plate, an image pick-up mechanism carried on the carriage and moved with the carriage to pick up the image of an object placed on the flat glass plate, a bottom guide wheel mounted on the carriage at the bottom and supported on the longitudinal sliding rail to guide reciprocating movement of the carriage along the longitudinal sliding rail, and a top guide wheel mounted on the carriage at the top and spaced below the flat glass plate by a gap, the top guide wheel being forced into contact with the flat glass plate by the gravity weight of the carriage when the scanner is turned upside down, permitting the carriage to be reciprocated on the flat glass plate along the longitudinal guide rod so that the image pick-up mechanism can pick up the image of a 3-D document placed below the scanner.

  • Patent number: 5873614
Abstract: An anchor connectable to a carpet stretching apparatus includes a generally L-shaped member in which a first leg defines a base while a second leg forms an upright backstop. The base has a forward edge and an underside thereon. A plurality of inclined gripping pins engageable with the carpet is disposed on the underside of the base. The gripping pins are inclined from the forward edge toward the backstop. The L-shaped member is engageable with a carpet stretching apparatus so that a force generated by the carpet stretching apparatus while stretching a carpet reacts against the backstop at a point of application substantially rearwardly of the gripping pins in the direction of inclination thereof.

  • Patent number: 5873964
Abstract: Lofty battings are prepared by a process involving carding to make one or more webs of fibers, preferably using a blend of mechanically-crimped filling fibers with bicomponent fibers of helical configuration, and that preferably also contains binder fibers, the fiber orientations preferably being randomized in the web(s) before cross-lapping to build up the batt, and preferably followed by spraying with resin and curing, thus providing a bonded batt in which the loft is improved by the presence of the different crimp configurations and/or randomized orientations that are fixed in the fibers in the bonded batt.

  • Patent number: 5868824
Abstract: Compositions, methods, and systems for manufacturing articles, particularlycontainers and packaging materials, having a particle packed, highly inorganically filled, cellular matrix are disclosed. Suitable inorganically filled mixtures are prepared by mixing together a starch-based binder, a solvent, inorganic aggregates, and optimal admixtures, e.g., fibers, mold-releasing agents, rheology-modifying agents, plasticizers, coating materials, and dispersants, in the correct proportions to form an article which has the desired performance criteria. The inorganically filled mixtures have a predetermined viscosity and are heated between molds at an elevated temperature and pressure to produce form-stable articles having a desired shape and a selectively controlled cellular, structural matrix. The molded articles may be placed in a high humidity chamber to obtain the necessary flexibility for their intended use.
