  • Patent number: 5765885
Abstract: A tie-type security seal having a seal body (1) with internal locking teeth (5) in a tunnel (2) and an elongate element (11) having a series of sealing formations (14) therealong. The free end (13) of the elongate element (11) may be passed through the tunnel (2) so that the sealing formations (14) successively cooperate with the teeth (5) on tightening the loop so formed. According to the invention, a locking accessory (9) integral with the seal body (1) is formed with a through opening (15) having a shape substantially identical to the cross section of the elongate element (11) and at least one flexible edge part (16) to adjust itself to the differences in the said cross section in the regions of the regions of the sealing formations. The accessory (9) is foldable with respect to the seal body (1) so that the through opening (15) is superimposed on the open outlet (4) of the tunnel (2) in the seal body.

  • Patent number: 5767287
Abstract: Novel intermediates having an indolenine nucleus which are useful in the synthesis of fluorescent sulfoindocyanine dyes are described. Dyes synthesized using such intermediates do not contain a reactive group that will covalently attach to a target molecule at an amine- or hydroxy-containing site. Rather, these intermediates are linked to an enzyme substrate or a member of a specific binding pair. Also included are tyramide-containing sulfonidocyanine dyes.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for the cordless remote control of a filling function of a mobile vehicle that includes a signal transmitter (12) and a liquid level sensor (14) that is mounted on a tank (18) of a mobile vehicle (16). The liquid level sensor (14) transmits a full signal to a remote signal receiver (22) by way of the signal transmitter (12). The full signal closes a control valve (26) interupting the flow of the fluid to the tank (18) by way of a conduit 28. An adjustable timer (44) provides a system safety back-up signal that closes the valve (26) if the full signal is not received within a preset time period. This apparatus and method can be operated in a semi-automatic mode or an automatic mode by the addition of an adjustable delay clock/timer (42). • Patent number: 5764830
Abstract: The present invention provides fiber optic couplers for use with at least three optic fibers. The optic fibers arranged in a linear array, that is, the optic fibers are coupled side by side. The fibers along either end of the linear-array are coupled only to a single fiber, while the remaining fibers are generally coupled between only two adjacent fibers. Generally, at least one of the fibers has a propagation constant different than the other fibers. Such variations in the propagation constant are used to vary the coupling coefficients among the fibers of the linear-array, thereby providing a repeatable mechanism, to vary coupled power ratios among the fibers of the coupler. Theoretical calculations and empirical experience have shown that varying the propagation constant of fibers among a linear-array, generally by pre-pulling the fibers by varying amounts, allows repeatable manufacturing of 1.times.3, 3.times.3, 1.times.4, 4.times.4, 1.times.N and even N.times.

  • Patent number: 5762024
Abstract: An aquaculture system for growing aquatic animals such as fish and crustaceans is shown and described. A rigid-walled floating tank is positioned in a body of water, a volume of water being provided to the tank via a floating pump assembly that is positioned in the body of water external to the tank. An inlet of the pump assembly is movable and may be positioned in a desired location and depth of the body of water, such that clean water that is free of surface contaminants and that is at a selected temperature is provided to the tank. The introduction of new water to the tank displaces and discharges a volume of water from the tank, thereby renewing the oxygen source in the tank and removing dissolved waste products such as ammonia. Additional oxygen may be injected into the water at different locations via oxygen diffusers.
