Abstract: This invention covers a method of manufacturing a composite laminate comprising the steps of (a) cutting a plurality of ply shapes from prepreg sheet stock, (b) stacking, in the desired order, the prepreg ply shapes to form a subassembly of from 2 to 8 cut plies, the subassembly further comprising at least 2 different ply shapes, (c) pre-consolidating the subassembly under heat and pressure to form a semi-rigid preform, (d) assembling a plurality of semi-rigid preforms into a mold, and (e) consolidating the plurality of preforms under heat and pressure to form a cured composite laminate. The prepreg plies further comprise from 70 to 92% by weight of a fabric made from continuous yarn having a tenacity of at least 20 grams per dtex and a modulus of at least 550 grams per dtex, and from 8 to 30% by weight of a thermoplastic matrix copolymer blend. The composite laminate is particularly useful as an anti-ballistic hard armor laminate in articles such as helmets and other hard armor products.

Abstract: An electronic device can include an organic diode and a shunt that allows a significant current to bypass the organic diode, wherein the shunt is separate from the organic diode. Alternatively, an electronic device can include an organic diode lying along a first conduction path. The electronic device can also include a resistive member lying along a second conduction path that is parallel to the first conduction path. In another aspect, a process of forming an electronic device can include forming a first conductive member, forming a resistive member over the first conductive member, and forming an organic semiconductor layer over the first conductive member. The process can also include forming a second conductive member over the resistive member and the organic semiconductor layer, such that the resistive member and the organic semiconductor layer lie along parallel conduction paths between the first and second conductive members.

Abstract: The apparatus for determining an impulse response in an environment in which a speaker and a microphone are placed works using an audio signal. Means for spectrally coloring a test signal, which preferably is a pseudonoise signal, works using a psychoacoustic masking threshold of the audio signal to obtain a colored test signal, which is embedded in the audio signal to obtain a measuring signal, which can be fed to the speaker. Means for determining the impulse response preferably performs a cross-correlation of a reaction signal received via the microphone from the environment and the test signal or the colored test signal. With this, an impulse response of an environment may also be determined during the presentation of an audio piece to provide an optimal description of environment for a wave-field synthesis.

Abstract: Lysophosphatidic acid acyltransferase [“LPAAT”] participates in the second step of oil biosynthesis and is expected to play a key role in altering the quantity of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids [“LC-PUFAs”] produced in oils of oleaginous organisms. An LPAAT isolated from Mortierella alpina [“MaLPAAT1”] that is suitable for use in the manufacture of oils enriched in LC-PUFAs in oleaginous organisms is disclosed. Most desirably, the substrate specificity of the instant MaLPAAT1 will be particularly useful to enable increased C18 to C20 elongation conversion efficiency and increased ?4 desaturation conversion efficiency in recombinant host cells producing LC-PUFAs.

Abstract: A method for the recombination of a gene is disclosed. The method involves the design of unpaired forward and reverse primers having homology to the 5? end of one template and to the 3? end of another template. Short primer extension periods results in a recombined template having paired 5? and 3? ends that can then be amplified. The amplified sample is devoid of any parental template.
