Patent number: 7833745Abstract: A rapid and efficient method for novel biological substance screening by surface analysis has been developed using Time-of-Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (ToF-SIMS). This method relies on the surface screening of an array of micro-organisms grown on porous membranes, which had previously been in contact with a solid growth medium. ToF-SIMS analysis differentiates among organisms producing different substances, either directly as molecular product, or indirectly through the use of multivariate statistical data reduction techniques. This method has many advantages over traditional microbial screening methods, which require sample preparation and time for assay development.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 2004Date of Patent: November 16, 2010Assignee: E. Publication number: 20100282042Abstract: A vibrato mounting apparatus for mounting a vibrato device, such as a Bigsby Vibrato, to an electric guitar without making changes to the guitar body is herein disclosed. The vibrato device replaces the stop tailpiece of the guitar leaving available mounting holes for the mounting apparatus. The vibrato device is then mounted to the apparatus without the need to alter the guitar by drilling holes. The mounting apparatus locates the vibrato device on the guitar in a manner to maintain the critical bend angle of the guitar strings over the bridge. With a minimalist profile, the mounting apparatus is essentially concealed from view and presents a small burden in weight to the guitar. An alternative embodiment provides a method for mounting the apparatus so as to preserve the design string dynamics.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 15, 2010Publication date: November 11, 2010Applicant: U.E. Publication number: 20100282642Abstract: A tailings solvent recovery vessel substantially without conventional internals utilizes nozzles for forming very fine solvent-containing hydrocarbon droplets from a solvent-containing tailings feedstream. The hydrocarbon droplets are discrete from water droplets. The hydrocarbon droplets are small enough to result in a large surface area and a desired fall residence time but sufficiently large that they are not entrained with the rising vapour in the vessel. The feedstream is introduced to the vessel with a pressure drop to result in an initial flashing of the solvent from the solvent-containing droplets. Heat from the vessel atmosphere or from steam flowing countercurrent to the falling hydrocarbon droplets is transferred to the falling hydrocarbon droplets resulting in vaporization of any residual solvent therefrom. A substantially solvent-depleted pool is collected in the bottom of the vessel and retained only so long as is required to pump the underflow stream from the vessel.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 7, 2009Publication date: November 11, 2010Applicant: TOTAL E&P CANADA, LTD.Inventor: Jianmin KAN

Publication number: 20100286246Abstract: In Caenorhabditis elegans, lin-4 and let-7 enclode 22- and 21 -nucleotide RNAs, respectively, that function as key regulators of developmental timing. Because the appearance of these short RNAs is regulated during development, they are also referred to as “small temporal RNAs” (stRNAs). We show that many more 21- and 22-nt expressed RNAs, termed microRNAs, (miRNAs), exist in invertebrates and vertebrates, and that some of these novel RNAs, similar to let-7 stRAN, are also highly conserved. This suggests that sequence-specific post-transcriptional regulatory mechanisms mediated by small RNAs are more general than previously appreciated.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 7, 2010Publication date: November 11, 2010Applicant: Max-Planck-Gesellschaft zur Foerderung der Wissenschaften e.V.Inventors: Thomas TUSCHL, Mariana Lagos-Quintana, Winfried Lendeckel, Jutta Meyer, Reinhard Rauhut
