Abstract: The present invention relates to novel catalyst compositions and their use in a process for the catalytic conversion of ethanol to a reaction product comprising 1-butanol. The catalysts comprise Group II metal salts selected from the group consisting of oxides, carbonates, bicarbonates, hydroxides, and mixtures thereof, supported on a lanthanum-promoted oxide containing alumina.
Abstract: An integrated process is provided for preparing 2,3,5,6-tetraminotoluene and salts thereof starting with nitration of 2,6-dihalotoluene. The process design eliminates costly intermediate drying and recrystallization steps. Handling of solid materials with possible skin sensitizing properties and toxicity is avoided, thereby eliminating human and environmental exposure.
Abstract: Highly pure 2,3,5,6-tetraminotoluene species are produced by chemically reducing undesirable oxidation byproducts. The 2,3,5,6-tetraminotoluene species are then used in the manufacture of superior high-performance polybenzimidazole polymers.
Abstract: A concentrator solar cell module comprises at least one solar cell and at least one light concentrating article. The at least one light concentrating article is capable of concentrating about 1.02 to about 2000 sun equivalents of solar energy onto the solar cell(s) and comprises an ionomer composition. The ionomer composition comprises or is produced from an ionomer that has a temperature of onset of creep that is significantly greater than its peak melting temperature.

Abstract: Biomass is pretreated using an organic solvent solution under alkaline conditions in the presence of elemental sulfur and optionally one or more alkylamine and/or one or more additional nucleophile to fragment and extract lignin. Pretreated biomass is further hydrolyzed with a saccharification enzyme consortium. Fermentable sugars released by saccharification may be utilized for the production of target chemicals by fermentation.

Abstract: Complexes of 2,3,5,6-tetraminotoluene with an aromatic diacid are prepared by reaction with a divalent salt of the aromatic diacid while maintaining the pH of the reaction solution between 3 and 10. The resulting complexes are suitable for making high molecular weight polybenzimidazole polymers for high-performance fibers.

Abstract: An apparatus for performing a correlation between a test sound signal replayable at variable speed and a reference sound signal, which is a digitally stored version of the test sound signal, has a determinator for determining a measure for the replay speed of a test sound signal; a variator for varying a test sound signal sampling rate, to generate a modified test sound signal depending on the measure for the replay speed, or for varying a reference sound signal sampling rate, to generate a modified reference sound signal depending on the measure for the replay speed, the variator being formed to vary the test or reference sampling rate so that a deviation between a test or modified test sound signal replay speed and a reference or modified reference sound signal replay speed is reduced; and a comparator for comparing the test or modified test sound signal and the reference or modified reference sound signal to obtain a correlation result.
